Hi Guys,

I juat wanted some advice on PIP Impalnts. I have known for a while now that i have these and am obviously concerned. Does anyone know what the latest is on these. I have been to the doctor but they wouldnt refer me for a scan and said i have to pay for it which i am not in the position to do at the moment. They seem ok and i have had no problems with them in the 3 years i have had them done. Basically i wanted to know if they are are all causing problems or it is only some people that have had problems with them. Will i need to get them replaced soon because i cant afford it :(

Thanks xx

Hello lovely,

Welcome to the forum.

All the latest information is at the top of the PIP forum. Have you spoken to the original surgeon and clinic you had them with?

Hi Ladies,

I'm new to this forum and this is my first post!... I wanted to share my experience with you as I had PIP implants...

I found a pea sized lump under my right armpit in June 2010 which I totally freaked out about and thought the worst! At this time I knew nothing about the PIP issues that were going on. I booked an app with the docs, they had a feel of the lump and sent me to the hospital for an blood tests and an ultrasound. The blood tests came back fine and the ultra sounds didn't really pick anything up. They just said it looked like a 'suspected rupture'. They said I needed an MRI scan, 10 painful and 3 more lumps later I had the MRI scan which confirmed I had a tiny rupture in my right breast and therefore have silicone in my glands (which is what the lumps are).
In between having the ultrasound and MRI scan I found out about the PIP issues that were going on and got sooooo upset sad smile

I got a solicitor in place (in case of any issues) and took all my paperwork to Dr Frati at the Harley Medical Group... he was so nice about it all and said not to worry we will sort it all out. I was very lucky as I had heard other ladies have had to pay again for theirs .

So I had them done again, had bigger much more real feeling Allergan implants... So after all that I am soooo happy Stars
.

Sorry to ramble just wanted to share my experience with you all! Any questions please ask away.

Although your initial surgery was private, your GP still has a duty of care for you and as the information from BAAPs indicates that all women with PIP implants should have their breasts scanned to check the implant is intact (you can find this information as a sticky in this section of the forum) I'd go back to my GP if I were you armed with this information (I'd scan the page from BAAPs and take it with me) and ask your GP to reconsider hun.

Having no breast problems or symtoms of rupture is no indication that your implants are not ruptured and I'm not saying that to scare you sweetness, you do need to get your breasts scanned and checked for ruptures. There is such a thing as a silent rupture, this is a ruptured implant that shows no symptoms, if you have PIPs and have a rupture, it's best for you sweetheart if you make plans now to get them either explanted or replaced ASAP.

If you find your implants to be intact and are happy to keep the PIPs, then sweetheart, if your GP gives way and allows this scan for free, this will be the only scan you'll recieve on the NHS, the rest if you decide to keep your PIPs will no doubt be at your own expence and the advise given is to be scanned yearly, this way, you have a scan a year and only if there is any indication of rupture you can then if this is your choice make plans to either explant or replace.

Please stay in touch hunni and do let us know how you get on and if we can offer any further advice, please don't hesitate to ask. xx
