Sleeping sitting up
Why do you have to do it?
For how long do you need to do it ?
Do you have any tips on how to do it ?
Had a dream the other night I'd had my BA and woke up sat up in bed. I know but wasn't very comfortable at all !!!

Re: Sleeping sitting up
To be honest with you my PS or nurse never told me to sleep sitting up...but....... you will find it is really uncomfortabe and painfull at first to sleep lying flat, esp in the morning when you have to try and get up and you have really bad boob pain.
I had my op 10 days ago and already i can lie on my side, and sleep pretty much flat. You sleep on your back for as long as you need to. I know other women on here have slept sitting up for a few weeks. It just depends on your recovery.
Tips for how to do it...... I found using a v pillar really helps, I also found that i slept better sleeping on the couch! Other than that just using loads of pillar's and even putting a quilt under your head.
hope this helps when its your turn

Re: Sleeping sitting up
Its to reduce swelling, sleeping propped up was recommended to me for 2 weeks after the op and it was quite uncomfortable but it was worse when i lay flat because they ached so much more in the morning. Definately get a V pillow, i got mine from Amazon and it was a life saver! xMiss Ellie wrote:Why do you have to do it?

Re: Sleeping sitting up
As the girls have said its more comfy for your boobs to sleep upright and helps reduce swelling but you do get a numb bum! I used about 4 cushions off my couch 2 on top of each other then placed 2 pillows like a V over then another across to really prop me up at first then took them away a couple at a time as I felt better prob for about 2 weeks or more as I remember.

Another helpful tip to prevent you from sliding down your pile of propped up pillows is to also put a couple of pillows under your knees too. I really found this helped.

Re: Sleeping sitting up
All been said miss ellie!!! Uncomfortable it is But, it is to ease swelling and ease discomfort in muscles. Some ladies have slept on the sofa, I had a walking stick beside the bed after trying everything to help just to get out of bed Once you get on your feet it is much easier. All in a great cause.xx
P.s. I had unders think three weeks? before I slept on side

:pale: Thanks ladies. Have already got a V pillow & a bucket full of pain killers.
May send my maniac dog upstairs to sleep with hubby and sleep on the sofa instead.

Re: Sleeping sitting up
I've slept in an electric recliner chair the past 2 nights at my parents house and it has been excellent, really comfortable even though your sitting up and makes it so easy to get up. Attempting the bed for the first time tonight though so at least I know what to expect when I'm back in my bed at my house & don't have my parents around to help :-( xxxxxxxxx
