Blood Tests :S
Hey girls :)
Just wondering if someone can help me out a little, I've got to go for my blood tests and my calcium, total protein and albumin count one week before my BA, im a little worried about them not being able to go ahead with the surgery. What reasons are they not likely to carry out the surgery? I don't think theres anything worng with me but just scared incase they cancel it due to the test results. Has anyone experienced this problem before?
Also after my surgery I have to stay for two nights instead of one, I wasn't told why, is this normal as I haven't heard of anyone staying two nights?
Thank you, any help at all is appreciated girls

Re: Blood Tests :S
hey hun, cant really help you out on this one as i dont no, alot of clinics do different things, as i never had pre-op blood tests, but other people here with different company have, and there again with the 2 night stay my mate went to a private clinic, stayed over one night then went home with drains in for the week. so everywhere is different. i say if your concerned just give your patient coorindator a ring and express your concerns and they should be able to help you. good luck huny xx

Re: Blood Tests :S
Is there anything in your medical history that might have prompted the blood tests sweetness?
I don't think I've heard of anyone having a 'planned' 2 night stay unless they had surgery through the NHS or like myself had a medical reason for the extra length of stay.
I had trouble with my blood test before my op babe, my blood tests kept coming back with my pottasium raised, after the first test I then had to go back and have another as they were refusing surgery until I got a good test back, I remeber panicking as it was so close to my surgery so went to my GP as I knew I'd get the results in 3 days and had the test repeated there and again it came back raised! This was all on top over a cold and a throat infection too that was being monitored by the clinic nurse and my surgeon, it really was an awful panic lol. 2 days before my surgery I got the all clear after a 3rd blood test! I was so releived and although I still had a rotton cold the infection had cleared and I was well enough for surgery...
If you're well in yourself babe, I wouldn't worry, the blood tests will be fine and your surgery will proceed as scheduled.
I'm sure you'd much rather have these precautions done pre-op to ensure you're tip-top and ready for surgery wouldn't you, I know even though I was in a panic, I felt really safe knowing all my pre-op tests were all OK.
As the lovely Ruby said sweetie, if you don't understand something be sure to ask about it, you should be informed about all your pre-op and post-op care. xx

Re: Blood Tests :S
On top of a few normal blood tests my clinic wanted doing pre op the surgeon also wanted a liver function test. When I questioned why as I am not a heavy drinker or anything like that the nurse told me my surgeon always requests them and is just ultra cautious. I did worry as to what the results would be though I was fit and well and had no reason to think they would come back abnormal.
Everything was fine and the surgery went ahead as planned.
I am sure this will be the same for you and you have just got a cautious surgeon like mine.
Good luck and enjoy your hospital stay and the pampering.

Re: Blood Tests :S
Thank you girls :)
I don't think there would be any reason that they would need to check for anything specifically, I had shingles back in January, thats the only thing I could think of being in my doctors notes. I think I should go and book a blood test with my GP sooner rather than later, that way we can deal with any problems before I have to get my blood tests done with BMI. Really hope it all goes okay... soooo excited for my BA , just don't want anything to come in the way of it. Unfortunatley I don't have a patient co-ordinator :S I just get to speak to my surgeon directly if i book an appointment or I can speak to his secretary, I guess I could always just ring up the hospital if I have any other questions.
My surgeon never explained to me why I have to have 2 nights stay, he just told me that was what happening, so I just agreed lol.
Thank's again girls, always helps being reassured a little :)

Re: Blood Tests :S
Hi i have medical history with my blood, my pre-op this week friday. Ive asked for it early so i can sort out any probs if any. I have to make sure my blood count is not below average including white platelets and red cells. I too am worried, but have ensured im following a proper nutritious diet, lots of red meat and green veg, and make sure i take my iron tablets daily.
Worrying about it doesnt help, in fact i got ill for 4 days which is worrying me more. Just try to eat healthily to the run up to yr op and hopeful everything will be fine.
good luck

Re: Blood Tests :S
Awww I hope all goes well for you :) . Yeah I've been trying to eat quite healthy lately, plenty fruit and veg :) . I know, just can't help but worry about it not going ahead, My surgeon is fully booked up until September and June 28th was the only time he could fit me in, as he is doing my surgery at 8am, so if there is a problem with my tests I don't want to have to wait till september :( as I go back to uni then.
Thanks hun... good luck :) xxx
