Im having my op at Abby Riverside and I have been reading on the BA storys that your partner isnt allowed to your room with you, I read one poor girl didnt even get to say goodbye to hers :( Does anyone know why this? Im really not happy about this and want my husband with me the whole time (well obviously not in theatre) I dont want to be a problem or a pain in the **naughty word** but I want him with me . x

Re: Partners
I had my surgery at the Abbey Pines (Transform), my husband stayed with me from my entering the hospital till 9 o'clock in the evening.
He came with me to my room, waited in my room whilst I had my surgery, was well taken care of by the nursing staff (we did make a packed lunch and snacks and drinks and stuff for him) was there for me when I was brought back to my room and although I never really woke to speak with him much, he held my hand till he had to leave at 9 that evening... No problems at all, we just shut the room door and were left alone, he just watched TV.
There was never any suggestion that my husband wouldn't be invited to be with me, this is twice I've had surgery now and both times have been the same. xx

Re: Partners
Think I might give the hospital a call. I metioned to my hubby last night about he wasnt impressed lol but he did have a valid point in saying we have paid a lot of money and should be allowed what I want. Fingers crossed he can stay with me x x x
Re: Partners
Well have just called the hospital and spoke to a rude lady (great first impression NOT). She has said I will NOT be allowed my husband with me when I go to my room and see the nurse anethatist and sergeon as this is hospital policy ! she wouldnt give me reasons just kept saying its company policy arrggghhhhhh.... She said he could come to the room when Im sorted but that doesnt really help me lol Im a bag of nerves already and my hubby is my rock ! I might understand if it was NHS !
Re: Partners
I never had any problems sweetness, I was asked would 'I prefer' my hubby to leave whilst I was being asked questions and the surgeon drawing on me and I said it was fine, nothing more was said...
I think if you're polite and make a request to the nurse that you're nervous and would like your husband with you if it's at all possible, you might find the staff at the hospital a little more relaxed... This was never questioned in my experience, but if you have a problem, just stay calm and make your request sweetie, remember the staff have your best interests at heart, if they refuse, then it sounds like he'll just have to wait till you've been seen by everyone that needs to see you and then he can come sit with you babe... That's not so bad, he WILL be with you whilst you wait to go to theatre hun, if there's time and will definately be with you after.
You'll be OK.

Re: Partners
My hubby was in my room with me before my BA - he was there when I seen the surgeon etc, but had to go out and sit in the lounge/reception area and read his book while I was in theatre. The nurses had brought him back again as I was waking up and he stayed with me for most of the day.

Re: Partners
I had my BA @ Riverside last sunday. My partner was with me the whole time apart from going to theatre. And whilst I was in theatre he stayed in my room watching tv. Everyone there was lovely and never even questioned him being there. He left to go to his hotel @ 9pm and was back @ 7.30am

Re: Partners
Just to add, he was also in the room with me when the surgeon came round to mark me up etc. I didn't see the anesthatist until I was in theatre.

Re: Partners
I personally think it should be patients descretion, Unless there is a medical reason or safty issue I cant see why he cant stay with me. One of my fears is they take me straight to theatre and I dont get to be with him befor hand and Iv been told Im going to be one of the first in so its possible.. I was really polite to the lady on the fone explained my fears and was told NO its hospital policy. I might call the PC and speak to her if needs be Il change hospitals and go to Abby Pines instead as from what Im hearing they are nice there lol x
Re: Partners
hun if its really important to you, which it sounds n i dont blame you, i would see if that is a posibility!! abbey pines was lovely!! :flowers:

Re: Partners
Its really stupid I know, but I think when im having my medical befor if i forget everything he can remember ect and also I cant get the thought out my head it could be the last time i see him (yes I know dramatic lol). Iv spoke to my PC and she has basically said that he can come with me. so now all I have to worry about is getting to the hospital and them refusing arrgggghhhh. I feel really pathetic that something so trivial is bothering me so much pmsl x
Re: Partners
I was in first on my BA day hun - they still need to settle you into your room first and fit you for socks, get you in your gown, surgeon comes in and marks you up, goes through paperwork with you for signing etc, so don't worry about beeing taken straight from reception to theatre - that won't happen.

Re: Partners
Omg ! this is very strange to hear this from Abby riverside, I had my BA there on 7th April and they was so friendly and when my hubby and i arrived they asked my hubby to wait in reception while i got changed and had a few tests, and then he came back in my room and stayed there while i waited for surgery and after.
Im dumbfounded they have treated you this way hun ! I would talk to your PS and explain everything to her.
Good luck hunni xxx
