Polyurethane-Coated Implants
Does anyone know of this type of implant?
My surgeon said I'm a prime candidate for these as I currently have CC, but I'm worried I'm being used as a guinea pig and I've been there before with Trilucent which I had to have removed whilst pregnant.
Apparently these implants lessen the risk of CC happening again but they are also hard to remove if things don't go according to plan. I told my surgeon I'd consider it if HE would offer me a free reop if it all goes "t*ts up" in the future but of course this was not an option!!!!!
Any advise will be greatly received.
many thanks

Re: Polyurethane-Coated Implants
Hey hun. I found this which is interesting to read
"Polyurethane-Coated Breast Implants are silicone gel filled implants with a silicone elastomer shell. The shell is coated with a Polyurethane foam which helps to avoid capsular contraction. Capsular contraction is the phenomenon whereby the body forms a capsule of scar tissue around the implant. The scar tissue then begins to shrink, which causes the implant to squeeze, change shape and harden. Polyurethane-coated breast enhancement implants have been around since the 1970's. Their use was briefly suspended in the UK in the 1990's amidst fears of the Polyurethane coating breaking down in the body. However, independent testing and reviews conducted found the rist to be minimal and in 2005, one manufacturer re-introduced the Polyurethane-coated breast implants back into the UK market"
If I were u I'd stick to the "ill do it but if it goes a*se up I want a FREE reop"
But if he can't offer that then I'd stick to general well known silicone ones as u don't want any other problems- its time for u to enjoy ur beaut boobies!xxxx

Re: Polyurethane-Coated Implants
I have no information to help hun, have you tried asking one of our surgeons on here about these implants? I think I'd feel the same as you with these type of implants.
Re: Polyurethane-Coated Implants
Well my surgeon is John Davison who is on here!!!! He thinks I am a perfect candidate but I don't want to be a guinea pig!!!! I've been one b4 and it didn't pay off for me. Misf1 can you tell me something (probably you don't know but I'm asking anyway) do surgeons get let's say bonuses from manufacturers of implants to use new products etc? Or are the totally independant?
Thanks

Re: Polyurethane-Coated Implants
I've just responded about the implants in your other thread [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] babe. xx
Re: Polyurethane-Coated Implants
They will probably have a better deal with one company over another. So if they give them repeat business they are going to get the implants at a cheaper rate. It works for bulk orders in big clinics which is why places like Transform use Allergan etc.
He may be thinking of you in the respect that these implants do help reduce CC. If you are not comfortable with them though hun, I would follow your gut instinct and not get them. Maybe speak to him about highly cohesive implants like the inspira soft touch, I'm sure I read somewhere that the highly cohesive implants reduced the risk of CC and rippling. Plus those are FDA approved which would give you peace of mind in the implant also.

Re: Polyurethane-Coated Implants
Thanks ladies, I am digesting everything and will possibly make up my mind in the next couple of days. One thing that confuses me is he said If I do go with these implants I need to go back for another consultation b4 my op......I wondery why he would need to do this? Why did I (a very opinionated strong woman) suddenly become a mute during my consultation.
I had to laugh when he asked if I have any fat on my body (thinking about using that to fill my chest) and I nearly answered No but have a an ex husband with plenty

Re: Polyurethane-Coated Implants
I suspect your surgeon knew you weren't entirely happy and didn't quite understand about the Polyurethane, so for your peace of mind and to ensure you were completey happy with the surgery plan he would like to go through it all again for you.
Sounds like you have an excellent surgeon there sweetness, someone who genuinely CARES for his patients. xx

Re: Polyurethane-Coated Implants
Oh ok hun :-)
Hey look what I just found out whilst doing boob research. Seems we're all nutters who are more likely to take our own lives!!!!! Been nice knowing ya'll!!!!!!
Mental health
In 2007, the longitudinal study Excess Mortality from Suicide and other External Causes of Death Among Women with Cosmetic Breast Implants (2007) reported that women who seek and obtain breast implants are almost three times as likely to commit suicide as are other women. Noted no notable suicide-rate increase in the first 10 years post–breast augmentation, but, at the 11- to 19-year marks, the statistical risk was 4.5 times higher, and 6.0 times higher at the 20-year mark, compared to the standard suicide rate for women of the general populace; and that women with breast implants also faced a tripled risk of death from alcoholism and drug abuse.[22][23][22][23] To date, seven studies have statistically connected a woman’s obtaining breast implants to a higher suicide rate.[24][25][26][27][28][29][30]
The research indicates that breast implant devices do not cause the higher suicide-rate among women; that women inclined towards psychopathology are likelier to seek and get breast implants, in the first place; a Danish study reported that 8.0 per cent of breast augmentation patients had a pre-operative history of psychiatric hospitalization.[27] Therefore, most ethical plastic surgeons conduct a psychological screening of the patient, before agreeing to the breast augmentation surgery, in order to determine that breast implants can have a positive consequence upon the woman’s mental health (self-esteem) and her satisfactory sexual functioning
