general questions
Do I need to purchase any bras prior to my surgery? OR will they give me special ones at hospital??
Does anyone know if regular pills (eg Birth control pills) affect surgery/anesthesia?
I have rather wide shoulders and big hips - does that mean i can go for more cc's??
And also i have read that having 'unders' seem to look quite small straight after op but after some time get much larger?... and im meaning without a bra.... Is this true??
Sorry for asking silly questions like these, but i just thought i should ask instead of just using the net and my doctor seeing as you have experienced it yourselves!!
Cheers,
Tessa :]

Re: general questions
Hi and welcome to the board! Here's my answers, gleaned on what little I've learnt, I'm not an expert like some of the other girls but this is what I've learnt
Do I need to purchase any bras prior to my surgery? OR will they give me special ones at hospital??Depends on the surgeon / company. Some provide bras, some do not. Mine didn't but did provide a chest strap which apparently helps with pushing the implant into place with unders.
Does anyone know if regular pills (eg Birth control pills) affect surgery/anesthesia?
I don't know why there are contraindications, but I know that if you are on the combined pill you cannot take for a week prior to surgery. The minipill is not affected. Possibly something to do with DVT. I don't know.
I have rather wide shoulders and big hips - does that mean i can go for more cc's?? It is true that having a wider frame could 'balance' out larger breasts and make them look more 'natural' but in reality, it has a lot of other factors which matter, such as how large your breast plate is, how big your breasts are to begin with, whether you are having unders or overs, if you have breastfed etc
And also i have read that having 'unders' seem to look quite small straight after op but after some time get much larger?... and im meaning without a bra.... Is this true??
Yes, they are meant to drop into the pocket more as the swelling goes down and the muscle releases the implant, letting it 'fluff' more. I'll get back to you on if this is true for me, cos I'm only 11 days PO!
Hope this helps but I'm sure alot of the other girls will be able to answer better than me!

Re: general questions
Great answer - couldn't have put it better myself.
However I will say that you must also ask all these questions at ur consultations. It's good to be prepared but always best to hear it from the horses mouth too xxx

The pain differs from person to person, some breeze though it and others do find the discomfort difficult to deal with for about 5/7 days in general, then things start to improve.
It all depends on your pain threshold and how invasive the surgery was. - Just take each day as it comes hun. xx
Re: general questions
geez 5/7 days of discomfort!! they will probably the most longest days of my life.. :O
sure will be cookie!, i reckon one of the best things that will come out of recovery is getting other people to do everything for me! HEHE

Re: general questions
I'm sure in one of my surgeons letters it mentioned to stop taking birth control pills 4 weeks prior to op.. I can double check this later though!

Re: general questions
Re the pill...
Some pills increase the risk of DVT by 50% so depending which pill your on and what guidlines ur surgeon has! Its best to speak with ur surgeon first then go to your gp about changing(if its one you'd have to stop)
I'm on the depo injection and I obv couldn't stop mine before hand but they said it didn't make a difference :-)

Re: general questions
dont know about the other stuff but they just told me stop the pill 5 days before. :> its actually scheduled during the 'off week' when there are no hormones, so they said just keep taking them like normal and it would be ok.

Re: unders
I have unders the same as Flowergirl but i am only 6 days post op, but when you read everything about fluffing it is true they drop into the pocket and the muscle relaxes and lets go making them appear bigger at the bottom of your boob.
They are more painful than overs and you will need to recover fully the chest band they put on makes you feel like you are being squashed :-) but its worth it in the end.

Look for the poster you want to quote, to the top right in their posting box you'll see icons, that look like this -
just click the quote icon and their quote wil then will appear in your posting box.

Not everone who has unders has to wear a chest band, it's up to your surgeon whether or not they feel it will aid your personal recovery.
If you have to wear one, they're generally worn for 1 to 2 weeks. x
