Recovery time with Transaxillary Incision? Empty Re: Recovery time with Transaxillary Incision?

Post by Leesh 24th February 2011, 6:08 pm

Hi hagendaz
I had transaxillary incisions. I was house bound for about 6-7 days and did as little as possible. Refraining from lifting things, pushing yourself out of bed, anything to do with arm strength. its important because the incision is in your armpit i.e. a lot of friction/movement.

I was up and about by day 10 but still extremely tired by mid-day. If you're traveling I would suggest not lifting any luggage or heavy bags.
Also because of they way the muscle is sutured with this incision I wasn't able to comfortably lift my arms above my shoulders until 3 weeks post-op and above my head until about1.5mths post-op.

Hope this helps xx

Hi hun, I didn't have a transaxillary incision (underarm) but I dont think the incision place will make much of a difference in recovery. No matter whether you have the underarm, crease or nipple incision you;ve still had a major operation and will need time to recover. By 10 days post op I have not doubt you will feel much better and back to almost normal. I would speak to your PS regarding travel, I was unable to lift anything heavy for 6 weeks so suitcases etc would be very difficult. I was also not allowed to travel abroad for 6 weeks in case of any possible complications (not to do with the flight) if I needed to get back to see my PS it could be quite difficult to get flights back etc

Thanks for your reply...
I am quite worried about only having 10 days to recover, but the PS said it will be fine.....I just have to ask the airport staff & my colleagues to help with my luggage & will pack as light as possible. :teehee:

I am dreading it, but in my line of work i constantly travel & i wanted to get the surgery done soon rather than later.....
I will only be going for 5 nights, so hopefully it will be ok.....

I can't wait...only 2 weeks left!! dance

I agree with misf1, I don't think the incision site has much of an impact on your recovery.

I had 10 days off and when I went back to work although i was able to go back i became very tired very quickly. I wished i had taken 2 weeks to be honest. xx

Eeeekkkkk....I just recieved a call from the PC this morning saying that they can't fit me in for the 10th and that they can squeeze me in this Sunday, which I had originally hoped for.

I am totally petrified now...I said I call back in a hour to confirm....
I guess it means I have more time to recover before i travel. I am so scared right now.....

Hi girls, I was wondering if you could help.
My surgery got bumped up to yesterday so I did not manage to absorb all the information I needed to, to prepare for my surgery.

I am so glad it happened earlier, cos there is no way in hell I think I could have managed to travel 10 days after my opp.

I am all strapped up & it is really uncomfortable, thank lord for the pain killers....I just wanted to know what I could purchase to help assist with the healing once my straps are taken off?

I am also scared to take a look at my stiching aswell, (I'm not good with blood) as I know I have to clean this, If i can bend my arms in that direction! :tears:

Congratulations on your new boobs hun, I wasn't allowed to put anything on my scars until I was 6 weeks post op. They were covered by a dressing until 13 days post op and after that they had nothing on them. I did exactly what my ps told me to do. I would check with your clinic exactly what they want you to do and follow their instruction as everyone is told different. I used bio oil and palmers cocoa butter on my boobs from day one to help my skin and used the bio oil on my scars at 6 weeks

Congrats hagendaz! :boobstick:
It was very uncomfortable for me as well. I had a friend help with cleaning the incision. That's prob best cuz you're really limited with movement to that area. I did not put anything on my incisions as my doctor was against it. Talk to your PS and see what he/she says.

As for other means of assisting with healing, make sure you rest. Listen to your body. All I wanted to do was get up but was so exhausted.
Congrats again!!!

My PS did not give me much information...but i am getting my strap off this friday so i will be sure to ask lots of questions then.

As for asking my friend to assist with the cleaning. I had already made that suggestion and they totally was against it. They looked petrified!! It's quite funny....hehe
