Good skin for BA?
I've seen this mentioned a couple of times with regard to good results from op, but what does this mean?
Does the surgeon assess your skin condition? What's good or bad & are there implications?

Re: Good skin for BA?
Do you mean with regards to the amount of tissue that's there? I know at my consultation this was the only way in which my surgeon assessed my "skin". The only other way I can think of is regarding stretchmarks and scarring... but unless you've had kids before and didn't get any stretchmarks, I don't think the surgeon can really tell just from looking at you how likely you are to scar badly/get stretch marks.
(I think scarring badly was one of the questions on my health questionnaire thinking about it, but I have no idea if I do or not!)
Hope this helps a little bit, but I'm sure someone else will be along with a much better idea than me lol!

Re: Good skin for BA?
Hi hunnie, I think surgeon's look for good elasticity in the skin itself and also the amount of fatty tissue already there (they often use the 'pinch' test to assess this) Good elasticity can also be gauged from any stretch marks remaining after a pregnancy or large weight loss.
These factors can influence the size of implant that your surgeon can use - although I am sure there are many others too.

Oh right, so if you don't have any stretchmarks after pregnancies are you unlikely to get them after BA?
How interesting, it never occurred to me that they would look for this. Learning more than one new thing everyday on here ;)

Re: Good skin for BA?
Well I would say that you are less likely rather than unlikely as the skins properties can and will change over time - so if the pregnancy was not so long ago that would be more indicative than if the pregnancy was quite a few years beforehand.Gabby wrote: ............Oh right, so if you don't have any stretchmarks after pregnancies are you unlikely to get them after BA?

Re: Good skin for BA?
When discussing placement of my implants with my surgeon, he said I had good skin and enough breast tissue to cover implants over the muscle without having to place them under, so that the edges wouldn't be visible through the skin... if that makes sense?
