Anyone know what size post op bra I should get?xxx
Hi all
Having my op next Friday and I haven't even thought about getting a bra for after the op! I'm going to go and try find one at the end of the week but I don't know what to look for size wise?
I am having 610cc and am 34" under my boobs. I'm a C now but have 410cc in, so I'm hoping the 610cc will take me up to at least DD, but then what about the swelling? Should I get bigger?? Aaaaa! Help!! lol

Your rib cage will also be quite swollen ToriLoula so get at least one band size larger (36") - so, as a minimum get a 36DD and a 36E. I actually bought 4 (cheapish) bras just for my post op recovery and I have found that I do use them all. I generally put a clean one on first thing in the morning after massaging them with Palmer's Cocoa Moisturising lotion, then after I have washed myself before going to bed I massage them again with the Palmer's and put another clean bra on to sleep in. These two are then washed the next day and I use the next two bras for that day.

Has your ps given you an idea of what size he thinks you may achieve?
The M&S zip up sports bras are great as although they are sold in cup sizes they don't actually have shaped cups. I bought mine in a 36E. I now measure a 34FF but they still stretch over my boobs and give good support.
Hope that makes sense. x

Bought the zip from sports bra - [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Bought mine in the black. I got 2 size as I knew I'd be swollen round the ribs and I asked the PS which size to bring. I was a 32c/d before and wore a 36DD straight after and then at first week check-up swopped it for a 32e. I have ended up being a 32/34e/f depending on where I go. These are fab as they make it easier for getting in and out of. I also bought some buttoned pj/gym vest tops that I could step into and also some comfy bottoms. Trying to pull on a tight pair of skinny jeans was not an option as I didn't have arm movement so got some jeggings. I actually got some £6 ones from Primark and they have turned out to be best buy for fit! x

You are so right - I am struggle to do the button up on normal jeans as I haven't the strength in my arm to pull it sideways to do up.
I started off a 32A, bought a sports bra 34E from Asda (£6) to try rice boobies with and then the real implants. I have mostly used that one since BA 13 days ago but have still needed to use bra extender on it as otherwise it rubs on scar dressings. I have also bought a 34DD M & S zip front bra but as I couldn't use an extender on it - it was so tight that I think it made my bruising worse and spread it right under each armpit. I have today worn the Asda one without extender and have been ok, so may try the M & S one in a day or two. So my advice is you definately will need to go up one back size if not two, or get an extender. I would definately think you would need an E cup as I only had 300 cc unders and am still wearing an E cup for comfort.
Good luck not long to go now. xx

I was wondering about this myself! How long do you have to wear these kinds of post surgery "support" bras for? Is it just until you feel comfortable enough to start wearing proper ones again?
Is there actually any difference between the official "post-operative" bras and the regular sports ones? The one with a zip sounds like a really good idea!

I think it all depends on your surgeon hun and how long it's taking for your scars to heal. Wearing an underwired bra too early on in the healing process could set you back months or even cause complications.
I think the shortest time I've seen on here is about 6 weeks, but others have had to wait far longer.
Your surgeon (or nurse) will tell you when its possible for you

Wow! Still, big boobies in a bad bra better than no boobies at all!! :)
Where do you buy the extenders from? I think I'm having the crease incision, and I imagine that's the most uncomfortable place to have it with regards to rubbing bra's and such?

I didn't find it all that bad hun - but my scars are slightly higher than the breast crease (I don't think I had much of a breast crease to start off with they were so small :heehee: ) so as the band of the bra isn't in direct contact with the scars.
However, on thinking about it, I have to lift my boobies upwards to look at the scar, so maybe that is pulling the scar upwards and my scar is in the crease after all Hmmmm, I'll have to investigate this further :sctill it gives me another chance to play with them LOL

Not sure where to get bra extenders from - I borrowed one from my daughter - think she got it on a market type stall that sold buttons, zips etc (is that haberdashery?), maybe look on line.
I know my mum has some that she actually sews into the bra so has to have an extender for each one, but the one I borrowed has hooks on one end that hooks into eyes on my bra and then several rows of eyes on the other end that goes into the hooks on my bra - so can use the same one in lots of bras. x
