When can I start using Bio Oil?
Hi,
I'm nearly 3 weeks post op now, and recently had my dressings taken off.. the nurse said I can now shower but not to put soap or lotions/oils on the scars themselves...
Can I still put Bio Oil/moisturiser on my boobs themselves?

Hi there,
you can still put oil on your new boobies as long as it doesnt go on your scars. On average scars are normally ready for oil after about 6 weeks but always double check with your nurse or surgeon before applying any, just to be sure xx

Re: When can I start using Bio Oil?
A friend of mine's son had his legs badly burned in an accident at work last year and he has been told to break open evening primrose capsules and put this on his legs to moisturise the scars - has anyone else tried this instead of bio oil?

I used pure vitamin E oil on my scars at 6 weeks post op, but I started with bio oil at about 3 weeks, and just avoided the scar area.xx

Hi hun, I've been using palmers cocoa butter (it's gorgoeus) known for it's prevention of stretchmarks etc since week one and at 4 weeks not a stretch mark in sight, you do have to be wary of getting anything on your scars though. I was told by my nurse to massage my boobies after the dressings came off with any vit E based creams or Bio oil but AVOID the scar area. xx

Re: When can I start using Bio Oil?
When I had my BA first time around MB used to send out little post op packs which contained (amongst other things) a little bottle of rosehip oil. I was told to use it as soon as my dressings came off - which I did. Obviously I'm not advising that girls go against what their surgeon has said because I know a lot of girls are told to wait at least 6 weeks before putting anything on the scars.
Second time around I don't think I used anything and you can't see my scars unless you really look hard!

You can put any type of moisturiser on your boobs now hun, but keep it away from the scars. Do you have a 6 week check up booked with your nurse/surgeon? At this appointment they would usually check the healing of your scars to make sure they are fully closed and you are at no risk of infection from putting anything on them. They should advise you of when you can start and I would follow their advice to the letter. As for scars, if you look at any scar on your body, your scars will heal like this, and end up looking like that. Most people use bio oil, scar sheets with silver etc and are instructed to massage scars to break down the scar tissue and give you a nice flat scar. I can also recomend a few drops of tea tree oil in the bath (when you are allowed to put things on your scars) as it is a brilliant healer.
