Less than a week since BA - how important is rest? Empty Less than a week since BA - how important is rest?

Post by **Jem** 4th December 2010, 10:08 pm

Hi guys,

You may have seen from my previous posts, I had my BA on Tuesday. It went really well! I was pleasantly surprised by the lack of 'pain'. I was certainly uncomfortable and tight but it was manageable. I'm now on day 4 and not taking any painkillers.

The thing is, after a night in hospital and 2 very relaxing nights spent at my mums I am now home with my hubby and kids, 3yrs and 18mths...(hubby is 33!).

And I know Im meant to be taking it easy, but Im finding it really difficult to not DO anything! We took the kids to a panto today, which was booked before my BA. I had other family there to help and I was really glad I made the effort to go. But should I have stayed home?

Also I keep catching myself doing house stuff, making the bed, tidying this and that, helping the kids get dressed...a womans work is never done! Although my hubby is doing a good job and I cant complain that he's not doing enough, there's always something that needs doing.

I'm not finding that its causing me pain as such. I had unders and I can feel my muscles tighten when I use them, and it feels like my implants go hard and a bit tingly. The worst discomfort I had was when I went to the loo at the panto, it had a pull chain and I gave a feeble attempt and then just decided to leave it as I didnt have the strength!

Will I do long term damage if I carry on? Has anyone else felt like they got back to doing things a bit quick? Did it cause any problems?

You most certainly could Jem, I was told by my PS a very common cause of CC is overdoing things during the 6 week recovery period, you might feel OK but you body is still healing internatlly.

Take it easy hun, it just isn't worth the risk x

I would agree with loubyroo - you need to take it easy and no heavy lifting (like making beds!!!!!!!!). I am sure very light work would be OK and might even be beneficial (eg a bit of dusting etc), but you should avoid any heavy jobs like the plague.

Defo take it as easy as u can bear! Even if it feels ok at the time you might find u suffer for it the following day.
Everyone is told things a little different by their ps but I was told no lifting or hoovering for 6 weeks (I had unders) as was told to really avoid working the chest muscles as it could effect long term recovery and even positioning.

I would double check with your ps or clinic what is ok and what is a definate no no.

I think rest is very important to recovery hun. I had overs and was told no heavy lifting or hoovering etc for 6 weeks. I felt fine on day 2 post op and though I'd do a little washing in the morning, just putting some on and sorting it out, and felt fine at the time, but come the afternoon I was sore and exhausted and had to go to bed.

I know it's hard with kids but try to take it as easy as you can. A little light work, dusting, dressing kids, should be fine but nothing heavy.

Glad you are feeling well enough to be doing these jobs - but like the others have said, be careful and don't do too much. I think I will be like you, especially as my BA is just days before Xmas, I will find it hard to do nothing.

I may look up on a website the things you are and aren't allowed to do after having a c section or hysterectomy and while my husband is home for 2 weeks, stick to that - things will have to be different when he goes back to work - but my new boobies will hopefully have had a really good start.

Thanks guys, you have all made great points. I think I'll keep reminding myself of the long term and invest plenty of rest time in my new assets. I did ache much more this morning than in the last few days so it obviously was a bit much. Hubby has taken the kids out so Im having a lovely chilled out afternoon.
