Stiches
I'm just wondering how long it takes for the dissovable stiches to er dissolve.
At the moment I have the steri strips covering the stiches. My nurse said the strips would come off in a couple of days and that was fine. However it's now been 11 days since I saw the nurse and they haven't come off. Not only that but I can feel something sharp pointing through the centre of one of the strips. Omg is it a stich?!
I've left a message for Transform to call me back but it would be nice to know when everyone elses strips came off and if this sharp pointy thing is normal!!

Re: Stiches
I was told to change the strips every couple of days from when I had dressings removed at 10 days until I was 4 weeks post op but I think that depends on surgeons preference. I got a little stitch poking out and what you are describing sounds like the same thing, it's called a spitting stitch. I had no redness, soreness, or anything signs of infection so I decided to wait a couple of days and it sorted itself out.
I mentioned it to the surgeon when I saw him and he said it's normal but if it happened again just to call the clinic. He told me then that although manufacturers guidelines say the dissolvable stitches should dissolve after 6 weeks, he and other surgeons have found them at 2 years post op.

Re: Stiches
Anyting from 2 weeks to over a year! so its hard to say hun as everyone brakes them down at different rates.
Dissovable stiches take my body forever to brake down & with my B.A my body rejected them to the surface of the skin & they had to be cut out! but dont worry it dosnt hurt.
The sharp thing you can feel will be a stich & if it causes any problems youll have to go back to the nurse & she will 'trim your stiches' for you, I also had this done twice witch was a pain as i had a 2 hour drive to my clinic! lol.

Re: Stiches
Omg I dont fancy having them cut out!! I was bad enough when I had to have them trimmed! lol
Do you think I should take the strips off now then? I'm bit concerned that the air should be getting to the scars but if I've got a stich poking out maybe I should just leave them :dunno:

I'd definitely speak to the clinic hun. Give them another ring if they haven't got back to you yet. It will put your mind at rest if nothing else.

Re: Stiches
I had a Knot at then end hun that was half in half out & like i said it didnt hurt at all infact it felt great after she removed it!
ring your clinic & they will probably tell you to see the nurse to have the shape bit trimmed up.
As for steri strips i replaced mine every 3 days after my 12 day check untill i felt comfortable not having them anymore.......

Re: Stiches
When I had my dressings removed (day 7) I had to use steri strips too. I had to change them everytime I showered. They lasted me about 5 days then I had nothing on my scars. X
