moisturising...
When do you girls think it's ok to start moisturising your scars? I have been moisturising my boobs avoiding the scars, but now they are very dry and they pull because of that, I would like to avoid them "breaking"!!! But I don't know if it's safe to moisturise. I'm 3 weeks post-op today. xxx

Re: moisturising...
When you say moisturising do you mean applying scar stuff or putting lotion on them MM? I was advised to wait until 6 weeks po to start putting stuff on my scars, i would ask your ps as alot advise different things, its best to wait until the incision is healed, all the scabs have come off etc x
Re: moisturising...
I have bio oil which seems to be for scars as well and I was thinking of applying that - but as you say the scabs haven't come off from my scars - maybe that's why they feel like they are pulling a lot, the scabs are getting drier...

Yeh they'll drop off on their own, after that is when most people start applying stuff xxx

Hi moonmar!
I felt the same as you unsure!! However, the advice I was given preop was to dab 'pure' vitimin e oil (quite firmly) on the incisions when they had healed, I had a appointment 10days postop and enquired if it was o.k. to start? they said yes as healing was going well.
So, I started then, they said the tiniest amount -so as skin is not left damp, also it helps to break up scar tissue, then to cover with micropore tape which apparently flattens any bumpy bits. I was advised not to massage the breasts for six weeks re: anatomicals, however, though o.k. to moistutise them lightly after shower with bio oil.
But, as we have all seen - all advice given from different surgeons is different, so I would give them a call to be on safe side. I was really 'scared' to touch them in the beigining Hope this is of some help It's the not knowing I think that leaves us feeling we ought to know

Moonmar I was informed that if I found the 'pure' vitimin e oil too rich/gloopy? then to use bio oil, x

Re: moisturising...
Thanks girls... Mia did you put the micropore tape directly over the scar? I am a bit worried of putting adhesive stuff right over it - isn't micropore normally used to keep dressings in place?
It's probably best to call my nurse but thank you for your advice!

Re: moisturising...
Hi moonmar
Yes I put it straight over scar, and yes I thought that was it's sole use to, to keep dressings in place. My p.s. removed my steristrips, cleaned and applied the micropore tape. He also gave me a role to take home. The nurse also said it is useful to wear for a few weeks to help scar healing. I was also apprehensive, I thought o.m.g. I am going to reopen these incisions!!! I must admit I believe it helped.
But like you say it is best to ring to clarify, if I were you I would.
I now apply silicone gel sheets 'mepiform' (many different brands) cut to size, daily, only remove when bathing/showering, I whip them off now - expert at it now. My scars are good, very smooth, though I must admit the silicone sheets (skin colour) like any dressing leave slight mark more noticible than scar, but that is constant wear when I stop wearing them will all be fine i'm sure. They are very expensive though. Hope you get advice from nurse you feel happy with.

If I were you, I'd ask your surgeon hun, as different surgeons advise different time lengths before doing things
