Arm Movement
I had my BA on Monday, and I am finding that I can use my arms much more and pain free than I thought I would be able to, in fact I am finding that if I don't use my arms and move my shoulders I am feeling really stiff which is making me more uncomfortable. I was told to limit my movements over my head which I am. Do you think I am ok to do things if it isn't hurting like wash my hair over the bath? My left boob is more painful than my right, does anyone else find that each side is different
Also I don't need to be really proped up to get comfortable in bed, do you have to sleep proped up or is it just a comfort thing?
I thought I'd ask on here before calling the clinic, they are probably really silly questions but I don't want to do anything that will jeopardise my healing.
I think the fact I am so tired and feeling a bit emotional is making me more paranoid about everything.

Re: Arm Movement
Being propped up in bed (you only need to raise head and shoulders, you don't have to sit upright) helps with aiding the swelling to disperse hun.
If you're experiencing no pain hun, you should be fine to wash your hair, but if you can get help, I'd take advantage of that as although you feel OK, even something as simple as a hairwash very early post-op does take it out of you. xx

That's great you don't have much discomfort. I was ok with my arms too - I washed my hair over the bottom of the shower the day after my op. I think it's all down to common sense and what you feel you can do yourself. I was told "if it hurts, don't do it"
Happy healing!

Re: Arm Movement
I'm feeling the same as Suz. I can move my arms with ease and hardly have no pain. I'm trying to remind myself not to use my left arm as much as I've been told to limit the movement. But it's quite hard. A harsh pain after a quick, abrupt move brings me back to reality so to speak.
Cookie, you said sleeping or sitting propped up helps disperse the swelling. You know, I really thought it was just to do with helping with the discomfort.
I've been sleeping on my back one day after op. I still use my V pillow when I'm sitting. Do you think I should get back to sleeping propped up to reduce the swelling then?
Sorry to hijack your thread Suz.

Re: Arm Movement
Glad to hear you're doing well suz. I was surprised how much I could use arms etc but you have to remember that you're still taking painkillers etc so that will mask any pain. I used to feel fine and do stuff, then be really achy at night so worth taking it easy and taking the help that is available.

It does help yes hun. Just keeping your head and shoulders raised is enough to help sweetness, no need to sleep 'sitting' propped up. xx
