Stretch marks/scars? Empty Stretch marks/scars?

Post by tanyajade 21st August 2010, 10:24 pm

Hi,

I'm in for my op 25th Sept and I'm thinking about the strain on my skin. Is it a good idea to start using bio oil on my boobs now? I'm hoping this will prepare my skin and hopefully avoid stretch marks and help my scars to heal (I'm a slow healer).

Does anyone know anything that they think is better than Bio oil? I know Palmers do similar products for stretch marks..

Thanks girls

Hi hun, I don't know if it helped but it didn't do any harm (as I am prone to stretchmarks) I used palmers cocoa butter and bio oil on my boobs 2 weeks before my op and from day 1 post op. I used palmers in the day and bio oil in the night. When my skin went flaky I carried my bio oil around with me and put it on at regular intervals. I didn't get any on my scars for 6 weeks.

Ooh thanks Misf.
I'm prone to stretch marks too, I already have some grr!
I'll start with the bio oil now, and I'll buy some Palmers too. I didn't think I'd be able to use cream 1 day post op but that's good news :)
Thanks xxx

you are able to hun as long as you dont have bandages covering your boobs if you do you can use it as soon as they are off. I only had a bandage on for 1 day so when I took it off as instructed I had plasters over my scars so it was easy not to get anything on them.

My nurse said I will just have dressings over my scars but I suppose everyones surgery is different.
Did you have 'drains'? I've seen people mention them but I'm not quite sure what they are but they sound painful.. xx

I didn't have drains hun, my surgeon doesn't use them, but if he did I would not have minded. I think it's more the fear of having them out than the actual feeling of having them removed. Most say it's just a weird feeling. I had to have my stitches removed and that was weird and a little stingy but no pain. I wouldn't worry it's all worth it and any pain is not unmanagable and totally bearable.

Hi Tanyajade,

good luck with the op. I tried to answer the PM you sent me but your profile won't accept private messages. Anyway yes my avatar is 1 month post op and I only put on the bikini top for the photo otherwise wear a sportsbra all the time. I had drains and they are fine no real trouble and quick to remove with little discomfort.

Hi tanya jade. I too had drains and it wasn't a problem at all in having them removed. My nurse did give me a pain killer an hr before she came to remove them and I didn't feel a thing. Not sure if that was because of the pain killers or because my boobs were - and still are completely numb! Either way, it was absolutely fine and no problem at all!

Good luck!! Xxx

ooops I had my settings to not accept PM's for some reason lol!

Thanks girls, I'm afraid if I google 'drains' and look at images I might freak out..I'm a bit sicky with things like that! So I might not!
But you've put me a bit at ease so thank you
