Drains or bandages???
Hi girls
Only 5 day till my op and have finally decided on 370cc round overs (nagor GFX high profile which are more like mods in terms of measurements).
Anyway, my ps uses drains post op and I was just wondering whether you girls have had drains or bandages and why do some use drains and others don't??
Thanks,
Lucy x

Re: Drains or bandages???
I think its just if a ps like using them or not really! Mine did & i had drains & this might sound gross but the rap right around the edge of your implant inside & they pull them out of a small hole!
Mine didnt hurt but it turned mt stomach when the nurse pulled them out & i also didnt exspect them to be the whole way around the inside of my boob! I thought they just went in about a inch so i was shocked but they were out in about 5 seconds.....
& i didnt have any bandages I just had a giant plaster type thing stuck over my steri-strips.
Hope this helps!

Re: Drains or bandages???
Hi Lucy,
I had 435 overs and my PS always uses drains. They were only in for 3 days and it wasn't an issue as I was in bed for all that time anway. I left the surgery with about 100ml in each bag and they filled to 700 and 600.
If you have to go out with the drains they sit in a very fashionable shoulder bag and the tubes are long enough to disguise with a button down shirt. My PS said they aid with healing as the body has one less thing to worry about (getting rid of the fluid). I had minimal bruising and just had dressings and the bra to wear.
Getting them out was an odd feeling firstly because you have to lie flat and that really hurt and then they pull the thin tube out of each side incision, my PS just told me to breathe in through my mouth and exhale heavily when he said go, it was over in seconds but you do feel something under your skin as he is pulling.
Hope this helps

Re: Drains or bandages???
Don't worry about the drains kettlel - Using them is simply down to surgeons preference, some surgeons find them beneficial, some don't, I've had a surgery with drains and a surgery without, both times I was just fine and I didn't find the drains made a difference to my recovery at all.
I had no pain or discomfort at all when the drains were removed, I took painkillers an hour before followed the instructions given by the nurse, before I knew it they were out!
It's not something I'd be at all concerned about hunni. xxx

Re: Drains or bandages???
I had drains. Mine only stayed in overnight while I was in the hospital and they took them out the next day. They are a pain to drag around with you especially when you are trying to use the toilet! They don't hurt while they are in you but it's not the nicest experience having them taken out, that hurts slightly and feels horrible like something tugging at you but it's all over so quickly! I never had any bandages though, just one large plaster over the incision.x

Re: Drains or bandages???
Thanks girls
I'm not looking forward to having them removed too much sounds a bit painful! Hopefully they will remove them before my other half and my sons come and pick me up, not sure they would wanna see two containers of blood coming out of mummy!! I'm sure he said mine would just be in over night.

Mine were only in overnight hun. I didn't find the drains at all painful hun, some ladies do suffer a little discomfort though when they're removed but it's only for a few seconds and then it's over. xxx

Hi Lucy,
I'm not sure how old your little ones, I tried hiding the bags but my boys were fascinated at kept asking to see the "blood bags" I was concerned about how they would react but it was all good. first week back at school after the holidays my son came home saying he'd written a poem about Mummy getting stitches in her tummy, luckily I had some sun spots removed at the same time so not many questions from the teacher lol.

Re: Drains or bandages???
I had neither hun. I only had little sticky pads over mmy incisions. I think its just PS preference and how much u bleed dictates the need for drains or not! hope this helps

Re: Drains or bandages???
I have now had an op with drains and one without, i dont think it makes much difference really. Except, i didnt have drains this time and all week since my op i can hear funny noises coming from inside my boobs, maybe its the fluid that didnt get drained!! Has anyone else had this?? xx
