When do your scars fade?? Empty When do your scars fade??

Hi girls

Just wondering what your experiences are?

My scars have got darker recently, which I've heard is normal before they lighten up again. How long do you think it'll be until they go lighter? I'm 4.5 weeks post-op.

I've been told to wear micropore tape until my 3 month check, but I'm getting so fed up with it! So I'm wearing it all day to keep them nice and flat, after putting Dermatix on, and then at night I take it off, rub bio-oil in and then leave them bare (with my sports bra on) until the morning. Do you think this sounds ok? (The nurse did say this was alright if I wanted, but it sounded like she'd prefer me to wear the tape 24/7).

It cracks me up how everyone is told such different things - some are told to leave them bare after a week and some (ie me!) are told to wear tape for 3 months!

Anyway, your thoughts/comments would be very much appreciated as I'm constantly worried about doing something wrong!

I would say a few months to lighten, the redness is from blood capillaries which form there to help the incisions heal, these fade as you heal and turn pinky then white. Mine are starting to lighten a bit now but my ps said mine will lighten alot more after 6 months. I've heard alot of girls keep tape on for 3 months to make sure they have flat scars hun x

Hi hunni.

I think it depends a lot on your skin type and age. My scars are still quite red, but I think they will fade in time (but I have very pale skin and am gettin on a bit lol!!). They do seem to be beginning to get lighter now though, over the past few weeks.

I've seen some pictures of girls at 6 weeks PO and they've almost faded at that stage.

I have been told to leave mine bare because they are already quite flat and don't need to flatten, maybe if they need to flatten more they tell you to keep wearing micropore? I don't really know hun! I'm thinking maybe i should keep wearing it even if I have been told not to!

Thanks girls. It's so confusing isn't it?

I think I'm going to stop whinging and wear the tape 24/7 as much as possible, and also carry on with the bio-oil and dermatix. It's annoying but I've done over a month already, so 1/3 of the way there! And I want my scars to stay nice and flat as I'm really happy with them so far and would hate for them to get lumpy...

I would keep the tape on hun, even though scars start flat they can become raised, its more likely with ethnic people with darker skin or really pale people (red hair, freckles) to have raised scars but its good to follow what your ps has said xxx
