support bra
Can anyone recommend a good but affordable support bra to wear for recovery?
I am currently wearing sports bras as this is what i was told to wear by the surgeon but they just dont have enough support.
Thankyou

Re: support bra
I would try a smaller band size in the sports bra if you find they are not supporting you, as this is where nearly all the support should come from. If you go down a band size you will also need to go up a cup size.
Re: support bra
thanks misf, yea this was my first thought but i had read a lot of posts where other people were wearing support bras instead of sport so i just wondered what the overall opinion was :dunno:

Re: support bra
I've not tried a support bra, so I'm not really able to help with the difference in them. I did have a Z bra (post op bra) and that was really supportive when my boobs felt their heaviest..
Re: support bra
I never thought of post op bras, i'll have to have a look at them too, thankyou :flowers:

Re: support bra
Ok thought i'd update as i have found a fantastic bra for support, when out at the local shops yesterday i found a shock absorber sports bra on sale in my size so i grabbed it and i have to say it is fantastic!! granted it really doesnt look great (worse than the others i have) but it feels so supportive and comfortable.
Found the same sort on ebay for just £10 which i think is a pretty reasonable price;

Re: support bra
The support/ sports bras are the bit I dread most. The two I bought will show under my tops, though I s'pose It'll be worth looking a bit silly for a while as long our boobs get the support they need! haha
£10 is a great price! I bought 2 for £40 from Debenhams, they would have been £29 on their own! So expensive!! Xx

Re: support bra
yea they are a bit rubbish for under clothes as they come up so high, but your right it will be worth it in the end
ouch! that is very expensive, how do they get away with charging that sort of money for them??

Re: support bra
Hi hun
I initially bought a bra from m and s in a 36dd, up a band size for support, but it turned out to be too big over the shoulder and not giving the support and the hosp told me not to wear it. I had two cheap ones with me from tesco which are good and were in 34dd but the nurses suggested I get full cup support rather than 3/4 cup and get an e instead. My mum went and got me these ones from m and s and told the women why I needed them, and they told her these are the ones everyone gets. The support is brilliant. Not sexy AT ALL but they do the job and I am wearing an e in them.

Re: support bra
I bought a handful of bras before surgery, I showed them all to the nurse at the hospital and she chose two of them as suitable, and these are now the ones which i'm alternating while recovering. One is 'sports', one is 'support' and they're both good for the purpose.
Basically anything without wires and that closes at the back is good, as far as I gathered. Obviously if it's the right size and isn't too loose.

Re: support bra
I've read on another forum that ASDA do a really good one for £4... one woman said she'd spend up to £40 on sports/support bras and the ASDA one was her favourite and provided great support.
I'm heading down tomorrow to check them out. And might as well purchase it as an option for that price!

Re: support bra
Jen this is actually what i wanted to know as ive seen many people talking about how they prefer support bras over sports bras but i'm not really that bothered now as the sports bra i have found is perfect for the job anyways xx

Re: support bra
I bought the ones from asda after spending a fortune on support bras from M&S and they are soooooo much better. Really comfortable and they're not too bad under clothes, quite easy to conceal .... not the sexiest but best of a bad bunch haha
