Underwired Bras! Empty Underwired Bras!

Post by Lynnie 18th May 2010, 7:56 pm

Hey girlies,

I know there has been debates over when it's safe to wear underwired bras which seem to depend on which surgeon you have BUT I've got to ask your advice after seeing my PS today.

She has discharged me and said I don't need to see her again unless there is a problem - I'm 5 weeks post op. I asked her about bras and she said I can wear 'proper bras' now but no underwires for 3 months. She'd already told me that before so no surprise there, but then she went on to say that even then it's best to keep underwired bras just for nights out Shocked !!!

I used to wear underwired bras all the time before my op and having seen what non wired bras are available I was hoping to do the same again! I don't think it's possible to get a great shape from a non wired bra unless you have really big boobs.

What do the rest of you girls do? I've bought loads of underwired ones already Rolling Eyes

Thanks xx

I wear an underwired bra almost every day- sometimes because it's hard to find a bra that perfectly fits an augmented boob it can be a bit uncomfortable but I hadn't heard anything about NOT wearing a wired bra....

I do wear underwire all the time, all day and dont wear a bra to bed (I wore a sports bra at night until 7 months post op). I can't really say to go against what your surgeon has advised but I'd try and do the no underwire until 3 months then gradually ease yourself into underwire as they can be a little uncomfortable at first and then see how you feel and do what you feel comfortable doing.

I know what you mean about not going against what my PS said but we're all in the same position, there's no reason why it should be different? I'm going to stick to the 3 months as she advised but definitely will be trying the underwires after that!

Ive been told im allowed to wear underwires, and have been allowed since week 5. However I dont wear them all the time, some days my boobies just want to be in their little sports bra sanctuary lol and i always sleep with my sports bra on too!! Its all so bloody confusing lol xx

I wear underwired bras all the time, never heard of anyone being told to only wear them occasionally either. Personally I would stick to her advice for the 3month period then I'd start wearing them if it felt right. I dont want you to go against her advice but it after 3 months I'm sure it should be fine. x

I was 3 months post-op before I could wires too Lynnie, it took me a little time to be able to wear them all the time throughout the day as I found initially they made my boobs ache, but I wear them all the time now with no problems, I find underwires give me more support which is what I feel I need with having bigger boobies. xx

I wear a underwired bra everyday pretty much and a sports bra to bed and im 5 weeks after my op. My PS said its ok to its just that some girls find it sits on the stiches and hurts. I havnt found that. I do find wearing a supportive sports bra some days feels nice.

Not sure why her advice is different from other surgeons, maybe give the clinic a call and ask them if there is a particular reason.Like most girls with BA i wear underwires most of the time x

I was told i could wear underwires now at 6 weeks, but was advised not to wear them daily, that it is best to save them for weekends, nights out etc which I'm happy with. I don't mind wearing my non wired for work for a while more, as they are comfy! They told me that at 3 months i could wear underwired all the time if I wanted.

Lynnie am sure they would give you the go ahead to wear them on the odd occasion if you want to for a night out xx

I'm 5wks now post op and wear underwired bras every day to work. I've found that this week has been a lot easier to wear them, very little discomfort (around scar area mainly). At night I don't wear any bra. My surgeon is very relaxed about the bra situation.
