Underwired bras?
Forgive me if I seem thick but why can't you wear underwired bras for a while after ba? Is it to do with the scars? I'm only 2 weeks PO but am going to a few Xmas dos in a couple of weeks so would love to wear either nice under wired bras or go bra less. Do you think this would be ok?
Thanks x

Re: Underwired bras?
First off you are not sounding thick!! Often asked question!!
Again everyone is advised different by surgeons. The wires will disrupt healing, internally, and external incisions. The implants need time to settle, along with internal muscle, tissue, nerves etc. therefore, if you put unneeded pressure on chest you will be preventing natural healing process and also may cause damage.
I would not take the risk personally of putting myself at risk, I knew beforehand I had to wear sportsbras for three months, and I had no problem with this choice. Xmas was fine with a sports bra for me.
I would ask your surgeon as his advice may differ. xx

Re: Underwired bras?
I couldn't even mould mine into an underwired bra properly before 10 weeks!! The wires, as Mia has said could cause damage to your healing, just not worth it after going through all that effort for boobies Your sizing will also not be settled yet, so you may be wasting money on bras that probably wont fit in a couple of months.
I would check with your PS before doing anything hun, but in my opinion I wouldn't risk it xxx

Girls above are right hun.. I bought couple of soft bras to wear out about 3 weeks but only for time out, and slapped em back into sb's... not worth the risk, they are very precious for first 3 months...and the changes are immeasureable...... you're on a journey with some ups and downs yet!! short bursts in soft bras is ok,, but no metalwork! xxxxx

Re: Underwired bras?
My friend had a BA about 3 years ago and she wore an underwired bra after 3 weeks (bit silly in my opinio bearing in mind shed waited 8 years to get them done!) and she is left with a mis shapen lumpy implant where the underwire was digging in. Personally i wouldnt take the risk, its an expensive op and for the sake of waiting another few weeks I wouldnt risk it.
When are your nights out planned? if they are closer to xmas you may be ok, I was told by my nurse and surgeon I could wear a normal bra 5 weeks PO, which in my opinion still seems quite soon so I am going to wait 6-8 weeks xxx

Re: Underwired bras?
I wore a non-wired bandeau bra, which you can buy from peacocks or primark, with a strapless dress when I went out a few wks after my b.a it was fine. Underwire bras are so uncomfortable for weeks after untill everything settles anyway.

Re: Underwired bras?
I wouldnt wear a underwired so early as mia said it could compromise your healing process hun! I went out 2 weeks post op with the girls and wore a non wired bra and although they felt alrite through out the evening they ached even more the next day because they werent supported enough!! Your still early days hun, I dont think you should be wearing a underwired as yet. I had to wait 6 weeks and get the all clear from my surgeon before I could, yet again all surgeons are diff! LEt us know how you get on hunx

Re: Underwired bras?
Hi, just to say I called my surgeon today and she said I will be able to wear underwired bras after I have seen her in 2 weeks which will only be 4 weeks post op. I will probably wear sports bras in the day for a while after but at least Cinderella will go to the ball now!!!

Re: Underwired bras?
Hey that's good news tazzie. I got some really nice racer back sports bras from TK Maxx which amazingly give me great cleavage and support. I wear them now in bed and for the gym. x
