Swelling around tummy
Hi girls
well not so good today, feeling very swollen and bruised! Little bit shivery too and very tired. One other thing I've noticed, and not sure if it's normal or not, is that I have some swelling around my abdomen and above my hips, mostly on the one side. Don't think it's bruising as it's not really sore to touch I just look a bit fat!! Is this fluid retention? Should I be worried?

Re: Swelling around tummy
Sorry to hear you not feeling too good today, it is most likely the after affects of the GA, this will also be your tummy problems.
I was bloated for a bout 4-5 days after my BA.
Listen to your body and if you feeling tired try to get some sleep, and if you can't sleep try to relax and not do very much at all.
You are still very early days post-op, rest rest rest is the key.
Hope you feeling better soon xx

Re: Swelling around tummy
Have you had a poo yet? I am guessing not!! The delightful one sided swelling is prob due to the swelling of your ahem, full intestines on the one side!!
It is normal!! But yuk!
Keep an eye on the shivering though, can be an early infection sign. Do you have a temperature?

Re: Swelling around tummy
It is normal hun, as for the shivering it's also normal, could be due to having muscle relaxants during the GA (always given to stop you moving) and your body is just recovering. Drink plenty of water to help flush out the GA. Keep warm with blankets for shivering as well and have plenty of rest.

Hi girls
no defo not poo, had one of those it's more like fluid. And don't have temperature just took it so that's good!
I will try to rest just hard with 2 toddlers! Husband is being great though!
Sure this flipping bra they put me in is too small though!
When did you girls first look at your incisions???

It might be you have a lot of swelling hun, maybe try a band size bigger if it feels too uncomfortable.
I looked at my incisions at 14 days post op, the day after my stitches were taken out (had non dissolvable ones) and plasters taken off. They were just small red lines, quite healed. I thought they would be horrific, but I was very pleased with them.
Re: Swelling around tummy
Trouble is it's the special bra they fitted me in after surgery it has a chest strap incorported in it. And the clinic is in Brussels so can't really pop in for another one!! Think I'll give it a day or 2, maybe wear my other one in the day and this one at night, will see how swelling goes x

Re: Swelling around tummy
It's definitely bloat! When I had GA for my wisdom teeth extraction a few years ago I was very bloated for several days afterwards. My face looked like a chipmunk with huge swollen cheeks and my stomach looked like I was about 3 months pregnant haha. Not a fun week. Drink lots of water love

Where is the bra tight chez?
Is it the chest strap? if it is that unfortunately is meant to be tight hunni to encourage your breasts to drop, it's horrid and uncomfortable but does do the job babe. It shouldn't be so tight though that it restricts your breathing or causes a lot of pain or discomfort hun.
If it's the band or the cups then is it possible the bra is too small for you, is it possible to ring the clinic for advice? Maybe they could advice you with an alternative you could buy here?
Re: Swelling around tummy
Chez i put a bra back expander on my bra and that helped loads with the swelling, you can only use these if the bra does up at the back. i was very swollen on day 3 and 4, don 't think the journey home helped!
my swelling has almost gone now, so it only lasts a few days xxx

Re: Swelling around tummy
if your taking antibtics they destroy your gut flora and cause bloating so get some good flora back in if thats the case the bloating will go hopefully

Re: Swelling around tummy
Hi Girls
Actually I don't think the bra is tight it's just that it feels tight because I'm so swollen. Everything is a little better today and I'm hoping things improve on a daily basis. Boobs are still rock hard and up my armpits and look odd but they both look the same at least !!
Thanks girls

Hey Chez,
Sorry to hear you not feeling great :( sounds like u have bad swelling too :( wont be too long and the swelling will go down, majority of mine went after a week.
The shivering..... i get that and still do! not sure but ive been thinking its because of the nerve damage and its trying to heal again (someone correct me if im wrong plz).
Hope you feel better soon X
