Just got some bad news from my PS
Just had a phone call from my PS. She told me the results of my pre-op blood tests and it's bad news
She's given me two options -
1. I don't go ahead with the surgery
2. I go ahead but have to have platelet transfusions and will have to have drains. the problem with this is that I was going to have a day case (because I can't afford the extra to stay overnight) but you have to stay overnight with drains.
I don't know what I'm gonna do :tears:

Oh lovely, I don't know what to say. What has the test revealed?
Is there any chance you can talk to your GP about the results and get some advice?

Re: Just got some bad news from my PS
Hey, is your platelets iron levels? just that im ameamic all the time but control it with iron tablets cos my levels can get dangerously low,
Even after a few days your iron will be back up to where it should be if you was to go to your doctor and get some iron tablets.
hope this helps x

Re: Just got some bad news from my PS
Hey hun, why would number one be an option? Thats not very helpful. How much more does it cost? I'm having a daycase because I'm paying for 2 surgeries so expensive, but if you're just doing the BA doesn't it cost about £400 more? It does in my case, ask if perhaps they could discount it if its too much.

Ah hunnie - so sorry to hear your bad news.
I have also heard of girls having drains on a day case - On one of my consults I was told that I could have a day case with drains, go home with them and come back the next day to have them taken out.
There may still be a chance for you yet sweetie - will keep my fingers crossed for you xx

My blood platelets are low which means your blood won't clot properly. I always knew it was a possibility because they were low when I was pregnant and they couldn't find a cause. I just hoped that things had changed. The only option is a transfusion

Hi Emma. Thanks but it's not quite the same thing. She said that my haemoglobin levels are fine (which is related to the iron). x
Sorry girls, I can't seem to do the multiquote so I'm gonna answer everything separately!

It's another £800 for an overnight stay! It's just with it being nearly a grand it seems so much more. I know that is expensive compared to a lot of places but I really like this surgeon. It's only half the price with Mybreast but I didn't feel comfortable with that PS. I've not tried haggling with Spire as I don't think they budge on prices but maybe it's worth a try! x

I didn't realise some surgeons would do that hotcatz. Unfortunately mine isn't one of them! It's probably due to the fact that I am a bleeding risk though I suppose x

Hey scarybiscuits. I think that's virtually the same price as what I'm looking at, I think it's £4926. At my Spire they will do day cases as long as you are in good health. I always liked the idea of staying in overnight as I'd feel safer but an extra £800! x

Re: Just got some bad news from my PS
im really sorry to hear that, i had this problem too. you wouldnt be able to have a daycase with low platelets as they would need to moniter you overnight to check your not still bleeding.hopefully you can raise that extra money for an overnight stay, or get the price down.
do you know what your platelet levels were??? x

Re: Just got some bad news from my PS
Hi mizzpink, was hoping you'd see my post or I was going to PM you. Mine were 92 which I think was a tiny bit higher than yours?
Did you have to have a platelet transfusion before the op as I've been told I will definitely need that. The word 'transfusion' just makes it sound do much more serious and scary!

Re: Just got some bad news from my PS
So sorry to hear this Lynnie. It isn't due to the drains that you need an overnight stay hun, plenty of girls have drains and have day cases but if you're a known risk of complications post-op you will be required to have an overnight stay hunni. I know it's a lot more money for you, but when you weight that up against your health and the care you'll recieve after your surgery, it's cheap at the price for peace of mind IMO.
Good luck sweetheart.

Re: Just got some bad news from my PS
oh bless you hun, how annoying for you as your soo close!
yeh yours are higher than mine, mine were 85 the week before i had my op on my last blood test results, which 85 is good, so 92 is far better, i dont know why they want you to defintly have a transfusion tho, but i guess they are just being safe rather than sorry.
transfusion does sound scary! and i was told i would prob have to have one, but somehow in the end i didnt, but i did talk to a nurse and she said do not worry about the transfusion, its very safe, so youll be fine, plus i spent most time worrying about bleeding to death in the run up to my op,that i mite aswell of just had the transfusion as it would of saved me alot of worry x
so whats next, are you under a heamotolgist?? xx
