Perception of cup size and the augmented breast Empty Perception of cup size and the augmented breast

Post by misf1 28th January 2010, 12:45 am

After thinking about bra sizes and how they work, and augmented boobs and the size they look I started thinking after answering another post and after listening to cookie saying her boobs look what they measure. I was just thinking that our perception of cup size and what we measure are the only thing that's different and we do actually look the bra size we are measured at.
We all have a perception of what the average C, D, DD etc bra size is, but as the average woman is say (for example) between a 32-36 band size our perception of what a DD cup could be quite varied.
I'll use myself as an example, I used to wear a 34B just to give myself the look of boobs. I knew I was an A. Now if I had been a 30 band this would have been a 30D, well I would never have dreamed of buying a 30D even to fake my boobs, but they would have been about the same in projection. Now I can wear a 30G which the equivalent in a 34 band is an E cup and in a 36 band a DD now I percieve my boobs as looking a DD but they do measure bigger, the cups fit perfect, so therefore I must look the size I measure. Another example I'll use myself again:
Myself and my friend go get measured in bravissimo, she's a curvy girl and she is completely natural, we both come out being measured at a FF, Now my perception of the size she would come out at was a J or H cause to me her boobies are huge much bigger than mine, so I come out at a 32ff she comes out at a 38ff, now if she had been a 32 band she would have been a J or something, like I assumed she would be.

I hope this makes sense, it does in my head.
Just something for you to think about, do augmented boobs really measure bigger than they look or is it just our perception of cup size and we do actually look the size we measure.

Perception of cup size and the augmented breast Empty Re: Perception of cup size and the augmented breast

Post by COOKIE 28th January 2010, 9:54 am

Great post sweetheart!

I hate to see ladies being encouraged on forums to get the largest implants possible for them as often it's never taken into consideration that we're all different shapes and sizes and what may seem small to one lady, may seem mahoosive to another depending on their overall size! And believe me, living with boobs that you feel are too big for your frame can make you just as self conscious as we may have felt pre-op!

I believe all ladies going for augmentation should ultimately take sizing advice from their surgeon only. You stress the size you'd like to achieve and discuss with your surgeon whether or not this is achievable and how the overall look will result. If you don't then get what you both agreed on, your surgeon then has to address that.

Our surgeons see so many ladies boobs everyday and are experts in their field, our perceptions of our boobs may as you quite rightly say hun, not necessarily be correct, so always best to act on advice from the experts and if in doubt - Go back and question it!!!! xxxx

I think you're right you know, it's our perception of what a certain size looks like that is often not accurate.

Not helped by celebs lying about their bra sizes all the time, people like chantelle and glamour models all saying they're a DD when in fact they are more like a F FF or G cup. Men just like the way DD sounds!

Great reply Cookie. I too cringe a little when I hear "go for the largest implant size possible". Biggest isn't always best.

My surgeon gave me EXACTLY the look I was after... however I told him I would like to be a large C cup/ D cup maximum (I was wearing a 36 aa pre op)... I now measure as a 32g!!

I have lost a bit of weight recently, and probably I was wearing a band size too big pre-op, but working along the lines of misf1's first post... having gone down 2 band sizes I would have gone up 2 cup sizes... I'm really not far from what I originally asked for.

Moral of the story I reckon if you're fairly specific to your surgeon about the look you'd like to achieve, then they probably are best qualified in how to achieve that look.

Great post misf1!Im sure its our perception. When i was an A cup,i used to think anyone with B size boobs, looked big and anything over a C well they were enormous to me!!So i think in my case i just imagined anyone with D/DD size boobs was massive, but when in reality they were really that large. As for looking our bra size,i think we do when dressed and in the bra as they are the correct size for us and if it wasn't we wouldn't fill it,but maybe when naked natural boobs look bigger, cos they are spread out due to natural tissue and not a round shape.x

Absolutely brilliant post misf1! The other day I had read a post by cookie (thanks cookie!) which was along the same lines as you are stating here. For a pre-opper like myself this is invaluable to read. So many encourage the biggest implant offered and this is a refreshing change, hearing your logic on the entire matter and it absolutely makes sense.

I read somewhere a while back how Cheryl Cole is a 28F but my perception of an F would be HUUUGE. She isn't tiny but no way is she what I thought an F would be. So going by what you say she would be a 34C? which looks about right to me, she looks how I think, or percieve, a C should look.

On the other hand, my band size is 34. If I wanted to get a C cup and in actual fact I'm a 32 band size and not a 34 then I could turn out to be a D which to me if HUGE too. mmmm now you have me thinking Perception of cup size and the augmented breast 557141

This is definitely true! I'm a 32a right now, and with rice boobies making me a C cup I feel huge haha. But I know girls that are natural C's but probably have more like a 36 or 38 band size and, to me, look smaller than I do with the C cup rice boobs. I'm definitely worried about becoming larger than a C cup and hope I don't fluff, but this post has me realizing that at least I won't look bigger relative to my band size. If I lost any weight I'd probably look unhealthy! The only thing I have to worry about is gaining weight and getting bigger... I DO tend to put on weight in my breasts IMMEDIATELY when I start to gain weight... Kind of nervous to have kids down the road hahaha

This is such a great post! I am pre BA and have always bought 32D bras but I have lost approx 2 stones over the last few years but have continued to wear the same size bra. I am actually a 34C and a small one at that apparently! Since I discovered this website it has taught me a lot about bra sizes and how they work so I am a lot more clued up on it now!
I dont really mind what size bra I wear after my BA, I bought a 34G sports bra this week on the advice of some of you girls and OMG the cups look massive! I am hoping that I will only need this bra straight after the OP!
Lots of love

This has been confusing me lately. Will the surgeon tell me what size bra I need to buy for after the op? I've only had one consultation so far and he didn't take any measurements so assuming that would be done at the second? I bought a sports bra in a larger size just to try out the rice boob thing but may have got the wrong size. :dunno:

Perception of cup size and the augmented breast Empty Re: Perception of cup size and the augmented breast

Post by Galaxysmooth 30th January 2010, 4:37 pm

After reading this post I would say you have hit the nail on the head!

I responded to a lady on here explaining that agumentated breasts don't always look as big as the bra we put them in, and used myself as an example, I do not look like what I percieve to be an E cup. So it is indeed down to the individuals perception of what a particular cup size should look like.

I also don't advocate that ladies should always go bigger, however there are plenty of ladies who after having had their agumentation had wished they had gone bigger and end up paying for a re-op. So it's important to throughly discuss your expectations with your surgeon.
