Co-codamol?!! Empty Co-codamol?!!

Post by Funkygirl 26th January 2010, 7:52 pm

I was just wondering what painkillers everyone was given after their op, now I have a very low pain threshold, i'm such a big wimp and openly admit it lol. I have also asked for the numbing gel for my hand before the GA Co-codamol?!! 70324 . The trouble is at my consultation yesterday I was told I would get a week's worth of Co-Cordimol after my op, now I have taken this painkiller before and I think I might need something stronger. I told my OH I want tramadol and he said I wouldn't be able to take it and it would be way to strong for me, errr if it eases the pain I don't care if I'm knocked out!

So just wondered what everyone else was prescribed....

Thanks girlies! x x

Hi FB!

Yeah I will definately need the meds after as I'm such a wimp and can't take any pain at all, I know it's terrible lol. I will just see how I go but I really do I get something stronger than Co-Cordimol as I know I will need it.

I told Mr Liew yest that I would need the numbing gel, it's a must!

Post by misf1 26th January 2010, 8:33 pm

CoCodamol is a strong pain killer, I have had it and it knocks me out. I had paracetamol after my BA it was prescribed so stronger than over the counter. I stopped taking it after 2 days as I didn't need it. I had overs so maybe that is why it wasn't painful. I am also a wimp and took co-codamol after having my wisdom tooth out for a week. That was deffo more painful than my BA.
I didn't know you could get numbing gel for your hand I always hate that bit takes them forever to get the needle in my hand. You'd think I had hands made of leather lol

Post by Lynnie 26th January 2010, 8:35 pm

The box says Cocodamol is for mild to moderate pain relief. I sometimes take it if I've got a really bad headache but I don't find it all that good really, maybe it's different for different people. After having my first baby I had a 3rd degree tear which was excruciating, I was prescribed Codrydamol which is much better!

Not had my BA yet though.

misf1 - yes you can have this gel that they put on your hand before the GA, I only know because (I can't believe I'm saying this) I was put under GA to have a filling done at the dentists a few years back and the anesthetist put gel on my hand before putting the needle in because I am such a wimp and petrified of needles!

Like Lynnie I too have taken Co-Cordimol for a migrane before and it did knock me out for a while but i didn't think it was that strong. I have told my OH to bring me some strong painkillers for home in case I need them, as Mr Liew said they give a week's worth but anything more I would need a prescription and pay for it.

I've taken Co-cocodamol for back pain and hated the feeling on it. Made me light headed and give me back stomach pains. I was very lucky and only had Paracetamol after my operation.

Funkygirl!!

What on earth do you think is happening to you? Co-codamol?!! 855564

Bed and painkillers for two weeks Co-codamol?!! 557141

I was given 56 Tramadol 50 mg and Co-Codamol 30/500mg week suppy and antibiotics. Not sure which antibiotics as finished. However, I just got the boxes of painkillers out the cabinet (throw them now) I took them for a day I think....spaced me out. I took Paracetamol for three days? I think...but, you are not in pain..just discomfort. Think positive!! Imagine pain and you will feel it.

I was on my own throughout my journey, and had a flight and other travel the next day as I live offshore....tiring but perfectly managable. I cooked etc. for myself and laughed a lot at things I found uncomfortable..like sitting up from lying down etc. Think of it as a great fun adventure with a fantastic reward at the end to keep forever and ever.......you wont want to lie in bed..honest Co-codamol?!! 923101

Magic cream is good too......your hubby will tell you, they use it for children and sometimes, nervous patients...bet he is glad you are not his patient Co-codamol?!! Icon_eek

Just relax and enjoy....it really is a great day!!! x

Funky girl, you seem to have a picture of pain waiting for you after your BA, which won't be the case sweetheart.

You WILL have some discomfort, you WILL be restricted in your movements for the first couple of days, you WILL feel incredibly tired for a couple of days, but pain that puts you to bed for weeks! No hunni, you definately WONT have any of that.

I had a considerable amount of work done on my boobies this time around (re-op to replace rupture and correct damage done) I didn't take to well to the co-codamol given to me, codeine just makes me sick and just generally awful!, so just hindered my recovery. I replaced them with paracetamol and ibuprofen and that was enough to help me manage.

You'll be OK sweetie. xx

I agree with Mia and Cookie, its really not that bad, plus you'll be having local in your breast area too to numb it. I didnt even need co-codamol after my op, i took paracetomal and ibuprofen for a couple of days after and was fine. As the for the numbing cream, it really didnt hurt, just a little scratch and then you're asleep so you wont even remember the pain, you'll be fine lovely

hi hunni,

well i am the biggest wimp there is lol, and i was only taking 1 6 hours co-codomol when i could have had 2 every 4 hours. I was given a weeks worth but i only took them for 2 days then went on to paracetamol as the co-codomols kept making me sleepy haha.

As for the ga needle, you dont really feel it hun, its just a little scratch.

However everone is different.

Good Luck with your ba hunni

Post by Angelpie 27th January 2010, 9:55 am

LOL! Good luck with "milking it" for your other half Hysterical

I'm sure it wont be as bad as you're fearing. I went in as a day case and had my operation around 9am, I was discharged at 2pm and went round Tesco's on the way back home from the hospital. The next day my OH drove me into town and I went shopping for my children's school uniforms. I didn't overdo it. I made sure I rested frequently, oh and no heavy lifting or stretching. I found co-codamol fine for a couple of days and then went on to paracetamol when I needed it.

The sooner you can get up and about the better. A bit of light walking etc will help get the swelling down and help with any potential constipation (often associated with co-codamol).

Good luck. Enjoy your rest!

Co-codamol?!! Empty Re: Co-codamol?!!

Post by Crystal 27th January 2010, 11:16 am

Hu hun ,
Im like you & dont cope well with pain but i was only given cocodamol & stop taking it for 'tummy' reasons! I took the odd paracetamol but they didnt do anything so gave up the pain killers all together.
Like cookie said the 1st three days will be uncomfy & standing straight is a hard thing to do but after 3 days as long as you keep gental movement youll feel better.

The one thing i must stress is that not matter how crap you feel you must not 'retreat' to bed as this can cause more complications. They told me outright that i must not spend days in bed as it would really affect my recovery time. they said i mmust keep as active as possible & try & do little short walks everyday to help the blood circulate & help my body heal . I think they said if you do just go to bed then you increase the risk of blood clots so just dont do it. If you feel tired just have little cat naps & try & move in between them!

Hope this helps hun.

Post by alfie 27th January 2010, 1:04 pm

Hiya Funkygirl

Trust me you'll be fine. I found it was discomfort rather than pain and like Cookie I also had an uplift so there was more incisions. It was hard work lifting myself up to get out of bed for the first few days. I was also told to keep moving about, but to be sensible in what I did. I was given antibiotics, codeine 30mg and paracetamol 500mg. I was told to take the codeine and the paracetamol together, but to be honest the codeine didn't agree with me, it made me feel woozy and sick. I stopped taking them and I felt so much better. I have tried tramadol in the past for severe pain and they made me feel awful, they are one tablet I won't ever take again....no matter how much pain I'm in lol.
