Co-Codamol?? Empty Co-Codamol??

Post by shiv* 4th March 2011, 12:34 pm

I've been given Co-codamol by the hops group and I was just wondering if I am okay to take these untill they are all gone/ untill I need them?
I only ask as all over the box is written You're only allowed to use them for three days as they can cause addiction? But I can't imagine not being in pain tomorrow if I dont take them?!
I can't remember anything my nurse said to me when I left the hospital so don't know if she said it was fine to just take them all or not.. but couldn't see why they'd give me 32 tablets if I couldn't have them? shrug

Co-Codamol?? Empty Re: Co-Codamol??

Post by lindylou22 4th March 2011, 12:50 pm

Hi hun, I have these as well and the nurse basically said to me try not to use them if you don't have to, but if you're really uncomfortable then take one in between your paracetomol as normal and see how you get on. She basically said that they can make you feel quite light headed and dizzy, and if you take them regularly over a few days they can cause quite bad constipation. So, I have a pack of them as well (although I don't think I have 32), and they're just kind of there if I'm really struggling rather than as a regular dose.

Hope that helps a little.

if you feel you need them, take them, but its worth trying just paracetamol if you can, because itll make you less dizzy and less constipated

See what would I do without this forum! I'd of just been popping them till they'd gone! haha. And maybe thats why I'm dizzy every time I stand up!
I might try just having them in the morning and before I go to bed then and see if paracetamol will keep he pain away in the day.
Thanks ladies! :good:

I was given codydramol and I just took them first thing in morning when pain seemed to be at worst , apart from that I just took ibuprofen .Keep an eye on the constipation as a combination of GA and painkillers can cause this. Xx

Co-Codamol?? Empty Re: Co-Codamol??

Post by Rach26 4th March 2011, 10:59 pm

Hun, co codamol is fine to take for as long as you need it. I used to be on co codamol for my back pain. I started on 8/500 and took those for around a year, then went up to 30/500 as the lower dosage wasnt working. The higher dosage worked for a while, but then my back got worse again or I got "immune" to the effects of the co codamol and I ended up on tramadol. I am still on tramadol 2 years later. And with all these pills I have taken 2 tablets 4 times a day, so 8 tablets a day.

The only thing you have to be warned about is that the codeine in the co codamol can make you constipated, so be careful if you dont go for a while - you may need a laxative (senna, or fybogel). In a way I am lucky as I have IBS which only ever presents as diarrhoea so the codeine actually made me go normally!!!

Post by angbabyxx 4th March 2011, 11:20 pm

I agree with the girls hun, I took them in conjunction with paracetamol, so dodn't rely on them solely but really it's only the first few days you'll need them anyway if your anything like me. Day 4 I took the odd paracetamol in the morning and that was it. I didn't have any effects from the Co-co's - maybe that only kicks i if your taking a high dose maybe? It get's easier every day hun.....that's something to look forward to.... Hug

Post by shiv* 5th March 2011, 12:41 am

Thanks everyone! After reading on here I only took co-codamol this morning and then went all day without it just had ibuprofen when i needed it. I wasnt in any pain up untill about 11 tonight, but i think I pushed myself too much. Went to my friends house for a few hours to get my nails done etc. So I'm blaming that but I've just took so co-codamol to go to sleep on! and a day of rest tomorrow!
Also doesnt help i've had a bad night with ex problems and people talking about me at work when I havent even been there! So been on a bit of a downer and crying the past couple of hours! But still had to come on here and update!!
But thanks again!

How sh** of them! Don't worry yourself about that hun as it's much more important for you to rest at the moment and get yourself healing as quickly as possible!! How long have you got off before you go back?

I'm with you on the day of rest hun. I'm not going to move out of this chair today. I'm not allowed ibuprofen, only paracetomol and the Codeine stuff. I wish I could have ibuprofen as I've always found it to be very effective.

Hope you'll be feeling a bit better this morning hun.

Kimmy, I think it depends on the particular advice from ur PS, as I was also told not to take it by the nurse.

If you're really struggling and the other stuff isn't working for you, I'd phone up your hospital and ask them for permission to take ibuprofen, or they might prescribe you something else!

Post by Greeneyes 5th March 2011, 8:36 am

I had co-dydramol, which are like co-codamol.These too can also become addictive and do cause constipation which i found out  I was suffering with really bad dizziness and nausea until i stopped these on day5. I've only taken 2 paracetamol in 2 days. The tablets also gave me nightmares i think, can u believe i shot out of bed 2 nights in a row and found myself stood by the wall (baring in mind i couldnt even sit up unaided!!) They advise not to take anti-inflammatries whilst you'll healing because they relax your blood vessels so not so good in the early stages whilst your healing, they said after day 6 i could but just double check! Hope you find something that agrees with you but you'll be off the painkillers before you know it dance Hope your recovering well xxxx

Kimmy, ditto to everything you've said!! At first I was swollen down the middle of my boobs, and it felt like my skin was lifted away from my sternum, but that's actually gone down a bit now. I'm still swollen in the middle at the bottom of my boobs, kind of where my tape is.

I'll PM you my password hun.

Oops! I didnt even think about not being allowed ibuprofen I just took them! Now remember reading somewhere that we're not supposed to?! I'm not good at remembering what I should and shouldn't do!
Oh dear. I might test myself today and see how long I can go without any pain killers (which I could end up regretting!) But I've actually run out of ibuprofen now anyway so I'll be on paracetamol today.
I've felt the same thinking have I really paid £4000 for these?! but if you've got pics of before keep looking at them like i do. and it is a massive difference.
I've got some pics uploaded aswell kimmy and I was only a day before you so if you want a look i'll pm you?

Im feeling okay really! Had a couple of ups and downs but it's my own fault for not just siting in bed and relaxing! I'm sure we'll all be more than happy after a few weeks when everything's settled. I'm not even wearing a bra but it looks better than when i wore my double gel push up bra before! So I should be more than happy with that!
I'll pm you now with my pics then, I havent got many uploaded just yet but will be adding as i heal.
