Stopping the Pill??? Advice
Im abit confused and in need of advice. I know i have a long way off before my BA (12th Dec) I asked my PS about the pill and whether to stop taking it before. She didnt really say yes or no. Her words were if i am worried about getting pregnant then dont stop or if i am due my period then (But im not sure on that as i dont know when they return after stopping the pill???) Any advice as i dnt wanna put myself at risk x

Re: Stopping the Pill??? Advice
Hi,
I remained on my pill and was fine. I wasn't told to come off it at all - its not a long op and you will be back on your feet in no time. I think its only when you are 'laid up' they advise to come off the pill for operations due to the risk of blood clots in your legs from lack of movement/exercise etc..........good luck for 12th December Xmas boobies ay! xxxxx

Re: Stopping the Pill??? Advice
Hi,
I kept on taking my pill. I was told that it was my decision whether to stop it or not. There is a risk of DVT but it's a tiny risk and the surgical stockings they give you counteract that anyway.
It's a palava to stop your pill then start it again, so it's your decision. I kept taking mine and was fine.

I stopped mine and was given the mini pill as apparently there is less risk of DVT, to be honest i wish i hadnt stopped it as like Marie said its such a hassle and i dont think its completely nessecary.

Re: Stopping the Pill??? Advice
I've been told to stop taking mine 2 weeks beforehand. I was told this by the nurse at my pre-op. I did wonder if this was something done across the board or whether it varied with each company/surgeon.

Re: Stopping the Pill??? Advice
It is one of those decisions that is hard to make. I dont really wanna stop taking the pill due to the "hassle" of trying to deal with healing and a period !! lol. . . . .I think im going to keep taking it, but will just double check with my PS again to amke sure she ok with that. . Is says in the information leaflet on combined pill that it only for a major operation or loss of mobility for long time . . . Guess thats ok then x

Re: Stopping the Pill??? Advice
I carried on with mine - stopping it wasn't even mentioned! I didn't know about the risk of DVT until reading this post.

Re: Stopping the Pill??? Advice
I stopped taking mine 2 weeks before as adviced then started taking it again a few days after the op. if you take it 2 weeks before the chances are you will have your period before you have your op and therefore it will not be an inconvienence...

Re: Stopping the Pill??? Advice
what happens if you are on on your BA day? I am normally due around the 26-28th of a month so would normally be fine by the 6th but sods law I'd be late that week!

Re: Stopping the Pill??? Advice
It's happened to a few girls on the forum and actually happened to a friend of mine, just let them know on the day and they'll advise you on what you can use. It's not ideal though is it, it's inconvenient at the best of times lol x

Re: Stopping the Pill??? Advice
Have just spoken with my PS secetary and said to her that i want to carry on taking the pill and to ask my PS if she has a problem with this. Her secetary said that taking the pill is fine as far as she knows but she will double check with my surgeon just to make sure. All the secetary did say is that if i am given antibiotics then to remeber the pill doesnt work. If i dont hear anything from my PS then i will carry on taking the pill (My biggest worry would be a baby lol) x

Re: Stopping the Pill??? Advice
I havent heard anything from my PS secetary so sounds good. Will just carry on as normal. From what i have read elsewhere the only risk is DVT which is greater when you are pregnant and on long haul flights and we still all do thoses things so??? Thanx everybody x

Re: Stopping the Pill??? Advice
Yay!! Have finally heard back from my PS secetary!! She has asked the question to my PS just to double check and it is entirely up to me whether i carry on taking the pill or stop, She said that i would have no adverse effects if i carried on and it would not affect my surgery. She said it would be better to carry on the pill to prevent pregnancy . . . . . . .As pregnancy = NO BA!!!
