Severe loss of feeling post op Empty Severe loss of feeling post op

Post by Daisychains 11th September 2016, 7:54 pm

Hi ladies. Has anyone experienced a severe loss of feeling in the breasts post op? I basically can't feeling anything from about an inch above the nipple down on the breast on both sides. I am now 8 weeks post op almost and it didn't initially worry me as I assumed it would improve but it's made no change in that time. I haven't experienced morning boob, only very rare twinges so show any sign of the nerves repairing, I occasionally feel and itch that I then can't sratch as to scratch means I feel nothing if that makes sense.

I am just starting to stress that this is a permanent thing. Is it a fault of the surgeon that this is the case on both sides? A friend of mine had much more invasive surgery (inc lollipop lift) at the same time and has regained most sensation. I expected the risk of patches of numbness or reduced sensation but not this :-(. Any advice? Xxx

This is totally normal!! In my paperwork it says you don't get feeling back (particularly the lower pole) for around 1-2 years post op. It's a slow process!!

I have complete feeling back on my left hand side now. The right is still quite numb - even above nipple!

It just takes time and 8 weeks is still very early! Xx

Yup, all normal. Nerves can Take up to two years to heal. And I completely understand that itchy but can't scratch thing! Try an ice pack or an antihistamine to help.

Saying that, you may well be left with some permanent numbness. There are still small patches that I can't feel. But on the whole it came back. Just a little patience to be had.

Although I now longer feel pleasure in my left nipple my surgery was 3 years ago. Only pain if the nipple is touched.

Loui I think one of your posts may not have worked but thanks for the reassurance ladies. Despite all my research I really hadn't expected this! Fingers crossed it improves in time :-( xxx

Sorry to read this Daisychains but as others have already said, it is perfectly normal so try not to worry (as hard as that is), hopefully the feeling will come back sooner rather than later.
Aside from that....are you feeling pleased with your new assets?
