Help! Wound breakdown (dehisence) Empty Help! Wound breakdown (dehisence)

Post by emilysarahdodds 11th January 2016, 4:57 pm

So I have wound breakdown, it started just on my t junction on my right boob and now has spread all around my right boob incisions including part of my nipple (which I am terrified wont come back - but have been assured will) and looks a MESS! Every morning I dread looking in the mirror at it all. Other than the breakdown I'm happy with the shape etc but I just can't see past it all.

Surgeon has said antibiotics aren't needed unless it becomes red and angry, he suggested smearing honey over the open wounds to keep bugs at bay and that nature will heal things. I absolutely trust that there is light at the end of the tunnel I just feel so impatient already and this is only the start of week 2 with the wound breakdown.

Has anyone had it and can tell me what they felt helped or how long it took for things to look better?

At the minute I am trying everything, taking vitamins daily and trying to eat lots of meat, veg, fruit, I'm showering as suggested daily and patting dry, applying the honey once a day, wearing dressings when out to protect clothes but during the day going braless to let them breathe as much as possible as I read on here the air can help the wounds.

I need someone to just hold my hand and tell me everything is okay and I wont have an ugly right boob forever!! I don't want to bother Cookie with my problems. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] any advice?

I've had a quick read up, as this is new to me. Seems you're doing the right things. And you had McGeorge, and I know how much cookie trusts him. Honey is a natural antibiotic, be sure you get one with a high Manuka number though, not just asdas own, that'll be full of sugar and additives.

I think the best thing you can do is keep a photo diary of it. Maybe take pics daily so you can clearly look for any changes or signs it's getting angry. Don't forget, there's always your gp and a&e in an emergency.

Its all going to be ok. You've done this before, you know the nasties to look out for, and you're sensible enough to seek help. If you are still super worried, keep on at your surgeon, or go and see your gp or nurse.

I too had to look this up! I can't offer any advice other than to say all I've read suggests it's common with an uplift and lasts around 6 weeks max until things settle down. I'm sure u know all of this and doesn't help in the immediate future but try not to look at it too much - just a wuick check to see it hasn't got worse rather than analysing. Poor u - really hope it settles down soon. Not long until u are loving your boobs!

Poor you Emily. I have never heard of this, so looked up.
Your ps dosen't seem too worried about this. Like the girls said if you are worried maybe go see your own doctor. Hope this gets better. How long did you ps say it will take to heal? Xx
