Infection panic, need some perspective Empty Infection panic, need some perspective

Post by Emma71 11th July 2015, 1:36 pm

so I'm 9 days post op now and everything looking good. But I cannot stop panicking about infection, or an infection somewhere else seeding in my implant. I had a glass of wine last night and then panicked it would cause an infection, totally illogical I know. I have some little red marks on my leg that I can only assume are insect bites and now I'm flapping about those. Somebody please please remind me how rare infection is and give me some perspective because I don't think I can manage my whole recovery in this level of anxiety! Xx

Don't worry you're not alone I was like you, freaking out about everything, I even worried about germs on my bra and clothes even though all my incisions were fully covered. My sister had to verbally bitch-slap me in the end:ral:
I had two glasses of wine day post-op then spend the evening googling links between alcohol and cc!!! It was exhausting  Rolling Eyes
Just try to keep them dry, I had shallow, sit in baths, don't get any oils or lotions near the incisions and eat healthily, lots of protein, you'll be fine  :ok: X

Yes I'm being super careful with water and eating well. I feel great, but I'm just terrified of infection as I've lived the consequences. Google is the mother of all evils, I've spent all morning googling these red spots and whether they could get infected and that then travel in my blood to the implants . Bonkers xx

Infections do happen, but as long as you follow basic hygiene rules, you can rule out bringing it on yourself. Clean your bra daily, doesn't have to be full on washing machine, just a handwash and dry overnight. You should have 2 in rotation, wash one wear one. Any time you shower, make sure they are bone dry, hairdryer on cool is best for that. Plenty of protein and veg etc, don't smoke or drink, yadda yadda. Just keep them clean and dry, then you know you've done everything you can to prevent one.

Try and relax during your recovery otherwise you will make yourself unwell. Anxiety is not good really. You will be fine. Infection can happen to any of us but if you follow the guidelines you have been given you will lessen your chances. Infections are caused by bacteria getting into the wound. Leave them well alone and chill out and just let your body heal. Xxxx

Thank you all so much, I am being careful. I think I will feel more relaxed when I pass 3 week mark which is when it happened last time, but even more so at 6 weeks when I'm sealed again!!! I'm beginning to wonder whether I wasn't vigilant enough about water last time so am being extra careful this time. Thanks all again for the advice xx

Hi, I just bathed my bottom half in the bath and go no water at all near my boobs. Just used wet wipes. That way there is no risk of that area getting damp xx
