Been to see my surgeon :( Empty Been to see my surgeon :(

Post by Clarissa 11th May 2015, 6:14 pm

Well finally plucked up courage to go see my surgeon today....wished I hadn't now. Basically because I have conicals they stay put and my left tissue was never enough to cover it so I have indentation around boob. Also my left one has no lower pole as it's conical and again I had such small amount of tissue. He has given me 3 choices
1. Put up with it ( not an option)
2. Change left implant to anatomical
3. Fat transfer to fill out boob

I am devastated as will have to pay again and I'm still paying for these ones still.

Was suppose to be the best time but now it the worse. My poor partner still trying to make me feel better.

Just want to add I had taken and paid for after care cover but the company I used to have my surgery  went bust shortly after my surgery and my surgeon can not obviously do anything about that.

Please girls just make sure that the implants that are going into you are the right shape etc for your boobies. Xx.

Hey Fenech I'm so sorry to hear this! Surely this complication is down to the fact that the implant size was wrong for you, making it the surgeon's responsibility to fix it? Was this the size he recommended to you in the first place? If so, you shouldn't have to pay to fix it surely, doesn't sound right :-(. Xx

Did you see the same surgeon? And the company that went bust, which was it? How did you pay? Did you put any amount on a credit card in your name? Speak to a financial advisor on this, because I don't think you should be paying anything. The surgeon has made a mistake here and put the wrong implant for your body in. It should be up to the company to cover the costs. Talk to CAB, start there to find out where you might stand. If you did put money on a CCard, you might be able to claim the full amount back from the company for failing to provide the service intended

Post by Clarissa 12th May 2015, 7:09 am

Hey. Yes it was the implant recommended by my surgeon. He says he knew my left would not come out right as I had 2 different shaped empty boobs ( had 4 children) and my ribs are shaped differently.
I basically have no boob from under my nipple and I have never been able to wear a bra comfortably as I have 2 different sized boobs.

As for previous company I used....harley street plastic surgery....They vanished shortly after I had mine done and left lots of ladies without their money and boobs. I had to pay through PayPal so because it was through 3rd party both feel that it there is no recovery of money possible ( they were clever they knew what they were doing to screw us over).

I have spent my life hating my boobs and had and still have no confidence. I feel like I have spent all that money for nothing.

Also told that as I'm older and 4 babies later my skin is thin on breast and as the conicals are like velcro my skin slightly falling off and drooping.

If I had been offered anatomical at the beginning I would not of hesitated to have them. So for now will have to put up with it til we are in a better financial post ion.  Although now I think my nerves will be too bad and I will never trust a surgeon again.
No real compassion or holding hands up and saying...I'm so sorry I got it wrong.x.

That's terrible hun! this is giving me concern as he should be sympathetic to you and offering to fix out of compassion. I still feel you have a case to argue he should fix this because I'm sure that although he told you your left wouldn't come out right, he didn't tell you that this specific problem would occur. Hun I'm so sorry you are going through this and really hope you can go back and see him and work this out. Big hugs

Thank you.x. He has offered to fix the problem but at a cost of a few thousand, which we just don't have. He just kept saying that he no longer works for harley street therefore he can not help. When i rang to make the appointment i explained what was wrong and his secretary was still trying to get me to pay £100 to see him as I have no after care package! !!. so hard to put it all on here without me waffling on. But yes I do feel that at the end of the day he got it wrong. Hold hands up apologise and fix me. I am broken...simple as. Xxxxx

Oh hun, I totally agree with you, he should fix it, no question, without charge to you. Shouldn't matter which hospital he was working from, he's your surgeon. Can you get advice from BAPRAS (he's a member of that professional body)? Xx

That truly is awful behaviour on his behalf. I would take it up with bapras and complain. It's his mistake, he saw the problem, and shouldn't have advised that implant. It's unprofessional, and he should fix it regardless of aftercare with the clinic, he has a duty of care.

Really sorry to read this. The surgeon shouldn't have done the work if he felt the results wouldn't be acceptable. many people have 2 different boobs and that's why surgery should be tailored per individual per boob. I'm not sure what to advise but perhaps going back to your surgeon with a second opinion from somewhere else (another aurgeon/baaps/gp?) will give you a bit more welly to fight your cause and at least get him to give his fees for free.

At the mo I'm in limbo if you get me. My head is all over the place. My main issue is why did he not offer the other type of implant in the beginning. Surely he should of known pre op when he examined me.....yes he did as he told me yesterday that he knew my left would have no lower pole. When I wear a bra my left cup is empty underneath where there is no boob to fill it.
I know he saw me on short notice yesterday and I'm pleased he did but he just kept time checking and was at no point apologetic about it. I suppose he a business man at the end of the day.
I am truly devastated...It had to happen to me eh.xxxx.

The sad thing is, he probably didn't offer anatomicals because the clinic didn't do them. I would be looking for a 2nd opinion from a baaps surgeon to arm myself with information and then taking it from there. I would also email surgeon thanking him for his time but stating (factually) that you aren't satisfied with his conclusions and acceptance of responsibility and you'll be in touch again at an appropriate time. It's important he knows how your feeling.

Yes thanks Charlie I will look into it. I suffer with bad nerves (always have unfortunately ) this was such a big thing for me to do and even when I went to see him yesterday I was shaking with tears in my eyes. My partner was like you have nothing to be frightened of..He cocked up its his problem!! But the whole thing just seemed so wrong. There was no blame on his behalf and I think that's what I'm so upset over. Conicals don't work for me...ok well why did you put them in in the first place????

Need to breath and get my head round all this and look into seeing someone else to advise me properly I think.

Thank you all so much for replying to me. You are all lovely.xxxxxx.

As Charli & others have said regardless of where he is practicing from him being the surgeon has a duty of care to you his patient. He got it wrong so should be fixing it , to offer solutions afterwards & expect you to pay is unacceptable. Once you get your head around things do go back and see him armed with a 2nd opinion, it may just be all you need to let him know that until it is fixed you aren't going anywhere & hopefully
he will value his reputation & see sense! Hug

Great advice @mirren [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] !
Fenech I know your head's all over the place and you are feeling anxious right now, maybe write a list of what you need to do, so that it's all clear in your head, and when you go for all these appointments i.e second opinion from BAAPS surgeon & back to see [surgeons name removed], try to take someone with you such as your partner or close friend as they can support you and make sure all the questions are asked and satisfactory answers given. Good luck and please keep us updated xxx

Agree with the girls. Get a second opinion in, and maybe even some legal advice. Write everything down, and go over it with whoever you are taking with you to see him, so they know where the conversation should head if you get flustered. And always remember - a surgeons biggest asset is his reputation. Bad rep = no business. Now I'm not saying to come out and say anything...just keep that in your back pocket.

I'm so sorry you are in this position. I have nothing really to add to what the ladies have already said as they've given you some great advice, I can only echo what they've said. I think he's being totally unprofessional and it's certainly not great advertising for him as a surgeon for other ladies that are already considering him on here. I totally agree that as a surgeon, he has a duty of care towards you and he has failed you at this point.

Post by Emma71 12th May 2015, 5:53 pm

I remember reading a thread on here not so long ago where this surgeon told a prospective customer that he has never had to perform a re-op as he always gets it right first time. It struck me as incredibly arrogant at the time and this is cementing that view. As other girls have said reputation is everything for private surgeons, and you need somebody in a stronger emotional place than you are to come with you and force that home. You've got complicated boobs, so have I, so you see a baaps and Bapras registered surgeon expecting them to have the experience to work with those issues. I've had 2 lots if complications so far, stemming from the fact I started in a bad place. Now my aftercare has covered me and I'm not naive enough to think I would have been treated so well without aftercare. However you were wrongly advised by a surgeon who has admitted he knew it was the wrong advice!! You should not have to pay xx ps I know lots of girls who've used him who have truly fabulous results, in my personal experience it's when you set off with issues other than just having small boobs that problems arise and you expect surgeons to understand that xx

So sorry you are having problems French. Emma - you couldn't have explained that better! I know how you both feel having problem breasts myself. I got terrible results after my first op so I'm in the process of having 3 consultations with 3 breast specialist to correct that. [surgeons name removed] was my first consultation. I too had heard only the best reviews on this surgeon. He was progressional enough but I did detect a slightly arrogant tone in his ability to correct my issues. But nothing tells you more about a surgeon than hearing how they deal with patients when things go wrong. And how he's treated you, French is totally unacceptable. He's now off my list, no way will I take a chance on another arrogant surgeon again. Wishing you all the best in hopefully sorting this out. Big hugs. Xx

So sorry to hear your going through this Hun, I'd def be going with the advice of a second opinion and then going back to him. Good luck, I really hope it all comes out good for you darl. We trust our surgeons, we pay them for their knowledge and experience don't we, so this is very sad to hear he isn't taking responsibility for your unhappiness. Big hugs xxxx

Hmmm i have to say I am wondering if anyone is happy with the conical implants long term? I have them and also have the skin hanging off the boob problem. They were great for around a year then have really gone downhill ( literally!) I'm now having a lift and a re-aug next month which is probably what i should have had in the first place. I was dead against a lift but with hindsight i have just chucked a load of money away for 18 months of mostly saggy boobs. My surgeon isn't charging me for his side of the re-op but i am paying for the hospital, implants and gas man this still isn't cheap. The difference is I went into my first surgery knowing i was only buying time and my surgeon has been nothing other than helpful to me. There is no way i would be happy with how you have been treated and the company going under isn't an excuse, he put the implants in , its his work he should stand by it.
