When can I sleep normally again?
Hi ladies,
So on Thursday I will be three weeks PO! At the moment I am still sleeping upright and on my back, and I still HATE it!!
When do you think I'll be able to sleep less upright? I know I'm not ready to try side sleeping yet. I tried lying on my side the other day to read my book for a bit and got a achey heaving feeling so stopped. But I'd like to be able to at least sleep on my back flat...do you think I'd be able to just yet?
When I rung the clinic about 1 1/2 weeks PO they said I had to stay sitting up, and they even tell some women to sleep sitting up for four weeks!!!
She didnt specify what I should do personally though.
Would be interested to know at what point everyone else slept 'normally'!
xx

Re: When can I sleep normally again?
Hi I had to stay on my back for 4 weeks but even after that I wasn't ready. Follow clinic instructions for sleeping. When I did sleep on my side I put a rolled up pair of socks inbetween my books and that helped a lot. If your surgeon says it's ok, still do it in your own time. I wear my sports bra even now as it gives me support. Xxx

Have you had a wound check? They should have told you then, and definitely over the phone. For me it was 2wks, then back to normal, though my body kept me back sleeping for a while. It was probably a few months before I could side sleep again, but your body will let you know when its ready for that. I'd ring and hassle your clinic again!

2-3 weeks for me, but follow what you've been given. Be aware though that side sleeping may not be possible comfortably for months, and for some women it never is comfy again. The odds are even worse for stomach sleeping too. The joys!

I still can't sleep on my front but I would rather have my boobies . I only struggle while on holiday when laying on my front on the lounger. Can't do that. I need to holes cut of in the lounger for that xx

I started side sleeping at 18 days post op, after getting the ok from my surgeons nurse. Listen to your body, if it's uncomfortable or hurts don't do:Ok: X

My friend told me a great tip for laying on your front, roll two towels up. Place one on top of boobs and one underneath. That takes the pressure of your boobs x.

Re: When can I sleep normally again?
Thanks ladies!
I better call up again and ask. Having my wound checked next week charrlii so could ask them too.
It's not so much the lying on side, it's just wanting to get rid of some of the pillows and be less upright! At the mo I'm using three fluffy pillows and just want to go back to two!!

You don't need to be upright just slightly elevated xx

Re: When can I sleep normally again?
Yes, just as long as it's slightly elevated. It may be worth ringing clinic as they may say you can lay flat as long as you lay on your back. Xxx
