Found out I'm a day-case..
So I found out yesterday I'll be admitted as a day case patient. This threw me a bit at first, as up until now I had just assumed you stayed overnight. Plus when my mum had hers done, she stayed overnight so I just didn't think anything of it!
After thinking it over, I'm actually coming round to the idea of being a day patient as I worrying a bit about sleeping in the hospital anyway. At least I'll be at home in comfortable quiet surroundings...
That said, I'm a little worried about the drive back home. My house is about 1 hour and a half away. The thought of a seatbelt across my swollen sore boobs fills me with dread! I'm also worrying a little about the logistics of it all. With my surgery, you don't know your admission time till 24 hours before. So if I call up the day before and they tell me 7am, really I should be booking a hotel/travel lodge for the night before to avoid getting up at the crack of dawn! But leaving it that late is going to mean a hotel will cost through the roof!
I'm probably worrying over nothing (I do this alot!), but hoping it'll be ok! There better not be any flipping bumps in the road going home, thats for sure! xx

Re: Found out I'm a day-case..
Day case is fine, and if there is anything to worry about, they wont discharge you until theyre happy, so if you did need to stay overnight, you would. For the drive home, bring the biggest squishiest pillow you have, and have it upright infront of your torso, as a shield from the seatbelt! At that point though you'll still have the GA in your system, and they normally put a local in aswell, so it shouldn't hurt too bad.
We booked a Travelodge before, but that's because we were London to Birmingham. Call them and chat about it, see if you can weed it out...or just book it anyway, Travelodge is normally free cancellation up to midday on the day anyway.

Hi they won't discharge you until they are satisfied you are ok. Also I found that the day of my surgery was the most comfortable as I had all the strong pain killers inside me and the GA. Infact I was not in any pain on the day. Everyone is different though. Take a pillow with you to put under your seat belt it will help. Maybe ask for some stronger pain killers incase you need them for the first night. You may not need them. Xxx

It all depends on each clinic. I think mine was like 500 or something like that. I preferred to stAy overnight. But that's just me. I liked the hospital bed. Xxx

For me it was peace of mind. But if you feel comfortable going home, then that's fine too. As said above, they won't discharge you until they know you are medicly fit . I just liked being waited on. Xx

Re: Found out I'm a day-case..
I was never given the option, it was always going to be an overnight. I think if I go ahead and push for my reop I'd go daycase at hammersmith, rather than dolan. I don't think they itemise it as such, because then you'd have girls going in saying I want this but not that, so only charge this.

It was never an option for me either, surgeon told me I was staying overnight and I said fine with me
For me it's only 15 miles away, so not too bad when it comes to the journey home.. I will be sure to take a big fat pillow with me though xx

Re: Found out I'm a day-case..
Thanks ladies for your replies. I didnt realise how common day-cases are now? I didn't get the option, they hadnt even mentioned it in fact!
Reassuring to hear you all felt fine due to the meds still being in your system! I guess it's not a long drive and I'll make sure I have plenty of pillows :) Thanks Charlii in particular for your pillow tips!
Yeah it's a bit of a pain you only find out your admission time 24 hours before. Must be so hard for people with kids with all the childcare arrangements! Luckily my mum is going to take the day off so she can be with me. Might suggest booking a hotel just incase, I don't love the thought of getting up at 4am if I end up with a 7am admission!
Thanks ladies, so helpful and lovely as always!! xx

Re: Found out I'm a day-case..
I was a day case hun. Got there at 7, was having op at 8.30am and then slept on and off til 6pm when I got picked up. They gave me coffee, biscuits sand which etc and I showered before I got drawn on by surgeon. They didn't rush me or anything and I was told that if I didn't feel well I could stay over for no extra charge ( being a day case saved me £250 ) I was in my own bed and drugged up by 9pm and so glad I got to be at home that first night where I was comfortable and could watch the walking dead boxset hahaha so don't worry about it too much!! Re: Found out I'm a day-case..
P.s I live 2 hours away from the hospital. I had to get up at 4am the day or surgery and I took my time getting ready and had my final drink. My eldest two stayed out overnight so we only aid our 1 year old and we drove down. That evening hubby picked me up with all kids. I just pulled seatbelt slightly away from boobs and had a cushion to support myself and it was bad at all. Suppose all the painkillers and GA in my system helped! I live near preston and was at Dolan park bromsgrove Birmingham for surgery xx

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] Thanks! That's really good to know. I'm hoping it'll be the same for me. A early morning appointment then the day to feel well enough until I leave again. It's good that you didnt feel rushed in anyway either! Thanks for the seatbelt/pillow tips too :)

Re: Found out I'm a day-case..
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] no problem chick :) the closest hotel to Dolan park was a busy ride away and a bit of a walk coz its in the sticks so that wasn't an option for me. And I prefered to not stay in just because there's no place like
Home as they say! I never settle in hospitals and I'd have missed my little people too! But others prefer to have to worry about it afterwards so opt for an overnight stay. Like I said I was still drugged up so the journey home was a rather quick blur if I'm honest and I must have slept a great deal of it. I could have had transport to and from with THG but that was £110 each way which seemed a little expensive and money I'd rather save, also was more comfortable knowing hubby was driving always feel safer with him and was worried that if I'd have felt sick etc then Atleast it would have only been my own car and not someone else's haha.
The whole thing went so fast. Got there at 7, taken to room at 7.20 and told I was first in. Nurse took obs and said I could shower if I wnated and provided my sexy gown, hat, knickers and socks. I got changed then my surgeon came in and drew on me followed by the anaesthesiologist then at 8.20 in came another anaesthesiologist who walked me to theatre explained what was happening, settled me on the bed. Then bam I woke up with boobs haha!!

Thanks [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] so useful to hear about your experiences!
Glad you said it all felt really fast too. My mum was telling me you have to walk in your sexy gown to the operating theatre and lay yourself down on it, sounds terrifying haha!
I'm so excited yet nervous in equal measures. Just wish I didnt have to wait so longggg! xx

Re: Found out I'm a day-case..
If you were never asked if you'd like to be a day patient I'd personally call the clinic and ask them them to double check for you mistakes can be made, it happened to me thought Transform, when I arrived the nurse said, oh you're a day case, I said, I'm not Mr Persico wants me i overnight, possibly 2 she went back to check the paper work and I was led to a private room for my overnight stay.
So do check lovely.
If it turns out you are a day case you could always ask the nurse to top up your pain meds before leaving. The hospital an give you Morphine whilst under their care, so the trip home won't be quite so bad, maybe bring your duvet and a couple of pillows, one for booby protection and one to lay on, set yourself up in the back of the car and you'll likely sleep the whole way hun. Xxx

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] That's good to know! I'm pretty much on the 6 week mark now but it still feels like ageesss away. I don't think it helps spending hours on this forum everyday I just think boobs 24 hours a day! Wondering if I need to put it to the back of my mind for a couple of weeks in the hope the time will fly!
Oh god, these paper knickers sounds a treat! Better make sure I get my wax done a week before LOL!!
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] I have just dropped the nurse a email to double check. Good idea! And good advice regarding the meds and pillows. Luckily its only 1 hour 30 mins away so hoping it'll be a smooth ride!!
