How long to wear sports bras for?
My surgeon said to wear the bra with strap for one month but he didn't advise me to continue to wear sports bras after that. However a lot of ladies seem to continue to wear sports bras and don't rush into wearing pretty bras. Just wondering how long people wore sports bras for and is it better to wear a sports bra to help their shape?

He may mean you can take the strap off after a month but carry on wearing the sports bra. I think it's about 2 months, some surgeons will say how many weeks and others will give you the all clear through a post op appt, but even after ladies have the all clear some still don't feel comfortable in an underwired bra for another few weeks.
I would go back to your surgeon and ask the questions :)

There's no right or wrong answer, only the one tailored for you. You need to go back to your surgeon and find out for sure.
For me personally, it was high impact for 8wk with the band for 6, then I was allowed into wires. But just because you're allowed doesn't mean you can, it can take some time easing them back in, which is why a lot of girls stick with their sports bras.

I wore mine 'officially' for 7 weeks, but still wear it occasionally now and always at night. I do actually find wires comfy and luckily they don't make my boobs ache. But nothing compares to the comfort of a sports bra!

Re: How long to wear sports bras for?
Mammamia you still wear a sports bra at night and your surgery was June?! Is this because you find it uncomfortable to be bra less or some boob maintenance reason?! I prefer to sleep naked so had hoped I'd be able to take the bra off at night in a couple of months time. xx

Once you have been given the all clear by your surgeon to treat your boobs as your own, you can do just that. Some women feel more comfortable & secure wearing a bra at night, it also helps to keep boobs looking good for longer ( so more of a maintenance thing).
It entirely up to the individual what they prefer. XXX

Re: How long to wear sports bras for?
I read yesterday on the website of the surgeon I am interested in, it's a sports bra day and night for 2 weeks then every day for 3 months (taking off at night).
For special occasions in the three month period you may wear a under wired soft bra or bikini if you need to.
From all the research I've done it seems every surgeon will tell you something different, which means their aftercare will relate to their chosen method of insertion/scar maintenance and aftercare etc.
I just hope there are some pretty-ish sports bra's out there, three months is a LONG time!! xx

Yes expresso as mirren says, for maintenance! Don't want to spend thousands and then have them sag or flop to the sides! I also sleep naked so it's a bit weird to just wear a bra but hubby's got used to it!

I also sleep naked but wear my macom or sports bra at night, I'm 6 months post op. For me it's a maintenance thing I also find it quite uncomfortable without the support x

Re: How long to wear sports bras for?
Well sounds like a good idea then if it's for maintenance but I reckon I will have to treat myself (and hubby haha!) to a bra less night every now and again! x

Re: How long to wear sports bras for?
I've just had a reply from my surgeon's office and the advice is after one month wear whatever bra you would like. This seems to go against what other surgeons say though??

Re: How long to wear sports bras for?
You may find its not comfy. I think some surgeons have said 4 weeks in the past but in reality they've found they aren't ready, even at 6/8 weeks some ladies find they aren't ready and have to ease into wires slowly. I would take it to mean a month is the minimum time, but listen to your body and wear wires when your body is comfy in them. As for nights, often I go to sleep naked, but then put it on after he's had his fix!!!!!

Re: How long to wear sports bras for?
I think as soon as you feel comfy! My surgeon kept saying to me over and over again "no bouncing for 4 weeks" and i always wondered if he was referring to bedroom antics!! I think as soon as you've been given the all clear to go without your sports bra just go with what's comfortable! And before then, just keep it on, and no bouncing!!!!!

Haha brilliant advice thank you ladies! And when can they be handled?? There isn't any danger of them getting squeezed into a horrible shape is there?! xx

Re: How long to wear sports bras for?
No, it's all down to when you feel comfortable with it. A good tip is to guide his hands at first and show him how much pressure and what not to do.
Note for sexy times - if you're still in your mandatory sports bra period, it stays on, no matter how nekked you'd rather be! Only after the all clear can they get a face full!

Re: How long to wear sports bras for?
Thanks Anne, I think I'll wear a sports bra for as long as I can bear it, with maybe the odd day in a nice bra. Come the summer though I will be living in strapless bras so I hope I've adjusted to wires by then! x

Re: How long to wear sports bras for?
When all your swelling has gone down sports bras are sooooo comfy. That's why I do t like taking mine off. Live sleeping in it. Not very sexy for the hubby but that's life xx
