sports bras
I had my second consultation today and my surgeon said he recommends I wear a medical bra (macom) for the first week after my ba and then I can be measured for a sports bra but find one with a good size band and one with stretchy cups. He recommended one with a decent band so it sits well under the implants. Does anyone know any that are like this??

Re: sports bras
Is this for the sports bra? I'd suggest going to a shop that sells lots of brands and try them on. But you can only really do that when you need it.
I bought a cheap front-fastening bra that I wore for the first few days, but I didn't find it very comfortable. Today (day 5) I went to TKMaxx and found one I liked. It is the pull-on-over-the-head sort, but that's fine for me if I do it gently! It's much more comfortable than the other one which felt like it was underwired, even though it wasn't, but it was a bit tight on my sutures. I'd bought it online so couldn't try it on first.

Re: sports bras
I do intend on wearing the macom for the first couple of weeks at least and carry on to wear it at night but if I dont get along with it i will get a sports bra as he has said this is ok however I have never known sports bras to have stretchy cups as arent they meant to support you (high impact) I guess I will just have to wait and see and if I do need to get one then, like you say, go to a shop that has a wide range and try some on x

Re: sports bras
The macom should be fine throughout your recovery, but if you want to switch to a sports bra, you've probably seen my suggestions in the other thread. All the support comes from the band, so you need to make sure your in the right size. By 2/3 wk your swelling will subside and you'll be back to your normal band. Anything high impact (non supermarket) will have a firm support band. It'll feel tight, it's supposed to, but it means it's doing its job and supporting you in all the right places. Don't scrimp! Best value is the 2pk from m.&s, £25 I think.

Re: sports bras
Thanks Charlii, I do plan on getting at least one Macom. Surgeon today told me if I prefer, after one week I can swap to a sports bra but gave me things to look out for in a perfect sports bra. I also got him to measure me today and as expected he said to get a 36 band. IS it worth getting a size bigger in band to allow for swelling? I dont want to get a 38 for a week post op it be too big?!

Re: sports bras
I totally agree shock absorbers are great so supportive. I have the purple one with the racer back. It's great. The medical bra I got from spire had straps that were uncomfortable x

Re: sports bras
If you're going for a back fastener, it's cheaper just to get some extenders from eBay or Amazon.

Re: sports bras
So how many bras should I buy for the first couple of weeks and should these be a bit bigger than my band size? Also what is the difference (pros/cons) between front and back fastening sports bras?

Re: sports bras
The difference is just going to be personal preference. I hated the M&S zip front, loved the Macom. Generally you should always have at least 2 - wash one wear one. And the swelling for the first 2-3weeks can bump you around 2 band sizes. You should be able to get a general idea from your surgeon as to size.

Re: sports bras
Thanks. Going to my next appt armed with loads of bra related questions. My ps did mention m&s and Macom so I assume I need high support. Are they meant to squish your boobs in to stop them moving?
