Sleeping 3 weeks lost op? Empty Sleeping 3 weeks lost op?

Post by kezjb 31st August 2014, 8:17 am

I've been invited to stay at a friends 3 weeks post op, I will be sleeping on an air bed in their lounge. Do you think I will be comfortable enough? I have just bought my v shaped pillow (£7 off eBay with cover - bargain!)

I'm 9 days post op and I am no longer taking pain killers and sleep ok through the night. I think you will be ok, you just might need a hand standing up in the morning. I've had  two BA'd and have found the 'morning boob' the worse part! I got that pillow off eBay too it is v good for money :) x

You'll be fine.

If however you're sharing a bed, you may want to ask if they're the kind who wriggle through the night because the last thing you'll want is a nudge in the boob OUCH!

If you feel able Kez, you could try side sleeping if you're not already?

If you're not, to start side sleeping here's how I did it: I placed a pair of rolled fluffy socks between my cleavage.

I then used my V-pillow to hold onto. I put the V-pillow in front of me, I then used one length of the pillow to rest my head on and the other length of the pillow to hug, when you do this you'll find it creates a hole for your bottom boob to settle into. If you're boobs are ready for side sleeping, they won't ache. If you find they're aching, it's back to the back and raised.

Listen to your body Kez. After 2 weeks raised you can generally try side sleeping, but not before. Your body is best at telling you when and when they're not ready to do a lot of things throughout your recovery. Xx

Thanks guys and thank you Cookie :)
I wasn't sure - this forum is so good for that! My friend said if I'm not comfy she will ask her daughter if I can sleep in her bed but sounds like I'll be fine :)

My only thing was, i could sleep anywhere, bed, sofa, chair, just aslong as i was upright! i was like that for weeks!! It was absolute heavan when i could start lying back. I reckon ur be fine on a blow up, just make sure you take ur V pillow (...and another 3 extra normal pillows if ur like me yes )

Yes I would advise a few extra pillows too, otherwise it feels like your boobs will warp into your throat!

Can I ask why you need to sleep upright after the op? I can't sleep upright, I need to be lying down. Will this be difficult?

There's VERY few of us who can sleep upright rhy_fach. But the reasons for being upright for approximately 2 weeks post-op is help rid your body 'naturally' of the swelling. Should you lay flat and allow all that swelling to settle on your chest, at best it could cause an infection...or it could get more serious.

These 'rules' that apply to our recovery are there primarily for our 'safety' and then it comes down to the cosmetic part if helping you to get the best from your result hun.

I know when you aren't normally able to sleep upright that it can seem so, so difficult and I'm not for a minute saying it's easy... But in a way you do get through it and we each find the best way to suit ourselves. Some find sleeping in a chair helps best, others find in bed with a pillow castle surrounding them helps.

At worse, your back hurts and you may suffer some sleep deprecation, but you WILL get through it. The pain killers help. They don't only help with the discomfort of the op, but they also have you nodding off all the time and if you find it difficult to sleep through the night, you'll be able to have cat naps throughout the day to try and catch up. Don't fight that, just go with it and sleep whenever you can.

If you have children, do make sure you have help for at least the first week. If you have babies, then two weeks would be best.

You'll be fine though. It's not easy but it IS doable yes xx

Cookie is right, and it's not the most comfortable, but it is actually more comfortable than being flat! You don't have to be bolt upright, but definitely reclined at about 45 degrees.

I should have mentioned that - thanks mammamia.

When you're told you'll have to be upright for a while, as mammamia has stated it doesn't mean sat right up at all. As long as your head and shoulders are raised higher than your chest, that's as upright as you need to go. Xx
