Yes! There is an old traditional method of measurement and a new way! M&s for example use the old way, and the bras are consistent with this, whereas a lot of the luxury brands use the new way! Old way they add 4/5 inches to the band. So either way doesn't matter, just get measured in the shop you are going to buy most your bras from!

Re: 6 week Check & finally Got Measured Today
Most women are in the wrong size bra. Before my BA I was wearing a 36, because the 32/34 just felt way too tight at the time. However, all the support in a bra comes from the band size, so you need to make sure it's not riding up, is flat to your skin and you can fit 2 fingers under, and the gore is flat to your chest. This is why it's best to get 'fitted' rather than 'measured'. Yes, different bras and bands are going to be different. I measure 31", I was fitted into 32", but on some bras with less give in the band like lace, I wear a 34". A new bra should always be worn on the loosest hook not the tightest, so that as it stretches with wash and wear, you can tighten it up.
As far as I know. Shops don't fit consistently with the old/new method. If you take a tape measure to any bra, they will all be the same. It's the fit that matters. A lot of stores use this old method of +4/5 because it means they can stock a much smaller range of sizes, as it'll put more women into the classic 32-38A-DD. It's had millions of women in the wrong size bras for years.
Best advice I can give - get professionally measured in a proper lingerie store (bravissimo, Boux Avenue, or independent ones) get to know how a bra should fit on you, then you can take if from there in the changing rooms, instead of relying on sales assistants that may not be properly trained.

Agree there I got fitted in bravissimo and they go through exactly what to look for in a correct fitted bra, go through everything they are doing/looking for so definately recommend them. In Anne summers they measured completely wrong same as debenhams.
