I will be 4 weeks post op on Thursday (jeez it feels like yesterday!) will it be ok to do some long walks on my treadmill ?
Really missing my exercise and feeling a little bloated eeek! The wine and cheesy chips and massive portions of Eton mess have not helped! X

Re: Exercise
I started back. My PS said 3 weeks or whenever I feel ready. I went for two runs last week and did some gardening and all seems fine. I can't run anywhere near as far as I used to though not because I'm getting sore just too tired. I had to stop at 2.5 k and I used to do 10k at a time. X

Re: Exercise
Hey,
It all depends on whatbyour surgeon said to you about exercise - my surgeon said I could do lower body after 2 weeks the chest/upper body after 4 weeks but I didn't feel like doing anything til 6 weeks.
Now I am back in to it big time (6 months post op)

Re: Exercise
You'll have some info from your surgeon re exercise. If you don't follow it, you could invalidate your aftercare, so if it says 6wks, it means 6wks. However, you are encouraged to walk, so as long as you're well supported and not going too fast, a long walk should be fine.

Re: Exercise
Thanks girls, they said nothing at all for 2 weeks and take things easy between 3-6 weeks, not lots of repetitive arm stuff like ironing etc but encouraged walking from the off, I'm not gonna go mad, just an hour of walking moderate pace, maybe slight incline... Otherwise I'm gonna be a lil fatty soon lol x

Re: Exercise
like charlii says, definitely follow your surgeon's advice regarding exercise.
moving and walking is good, however anything that will make your heart rate /pulse quicken (like an actual fast paced walk with inclines) isn't generally recommended while you still have wounds that are healing.
check with your clinic if unsure x

Re: Exercise
Careful with the cleaning though, that can count as exercise too! Don't be pushing the vacuum around daily!

Re: Exercise
No I haven't vaccumed, or mopped! my husband is still doing that. I was told 4 weeks then vacuum/mop/iron and take it easy after that even. I usually work in the mornings then spend my afternoons working out then go get the kids etc, now I have the whole afternoon because no working out so I generally potter about and tidy up, everywhere is lovely ....No piles of washing as there normally is ha!
