please advice needed asap
hello I had my ba on Sat nothing but problems woke up this morning and one of my breast is red and more swollen than it was the other side is ok.
I rang the hospital in Manchester and was told to email pics of breast to them so that they could show the surgeon they then got back to me and said that he was putting me on 2 different types of antibiotics that was this morning.
the redness has gone but very swollen still.
I know that you can get a swollen belly but I look like im 8 months pregnant feel like someone is sat on my belly and when looking down all the top of my pubic bone is very swollen likelits a build up of fluid
I have just noticed im so worried is this normal im still sleeping sat up could this also contribute to the swelling any advice I would be grateful

sleeping sitting up reduces swelling, so keep on with that. Have you started your antibiotics yet? Sounds like they might suspect a possible infection but as long as you take the antibiotics they've prescribed it will clear up given time.
The swollen belly I'd say is normal at this point, it's the after effects of the anaesthetic, plus a bit of constipation and water retention.
Just keep an eye on everything and don't hesitate to contact your clinic if you feel worse at any point, or have a temperature, this aftercare is part of what you've payed for. Hope you feel better soon. x

Mrsm has said it all perfectly.
Once u start the antibiotics u should see some improvement. Don't forget to keep drinking water x

More swelling on one side happens to all of us. You have to remember that you've had 2 operations, not one, so one side may have suffered more trauma than the other. It sounds like theyre putting you on the antiBs as a precaution, if they were too worried they'd have called you back in. Take the meds as told, and stay on top of your painkillers. If you start to feel feverish though, call them immediately.
Buddha belly is all fine, its a side effect from the GA, and yes, can make you look huge! Have you been to the loo yet? If not, try a mild laxative to help things move. Also, peppermint tea is meant to help with the bloating, and try and stand up as straight as you can as soon as you can. You boobs will pull you into a hunch, which exacerbates the belly. It will go down eventually, but can take a couple weeks.
You don't need to be sleeping upright, just with your shoulders above your heart. Doing this actually helps to drain the swelling and fluids, so no, its not contributing to the belly. Keep sleeping propped up until your nurse advises otherwise.
Everything you've described sounds fine. No one ever really tells you the 'ugly' side of the BA, which is why we are open and honest about it all on here. Take it easy, get some rest, and we're all here to support you if needed.

bless you its such a worrying time isnt it
im afraid that the belly is normal i was massive lol
the swelling like charlii has said happens to most of us, my left side was massive and they were preping me for theatre again that night as they thought it wasa bleed, even took my blooming food away from me lol I was raging, anyway turned out to be nothing just a bit of trauma on that breast than the other
Its great that they have you on antibiotics so that if there is an infection then they can get it under control with them
let us know how it goes, and remember you are still very very early post op and day 3/4 is normally the worst xx
