Preventative Mastectony
Hi ladies,
I need some guidance please.
My mum was diagnosed with Breast cancer at 41, and my nan when she was early 50's. Both have been treated and are healthy now. My mum was tested for the BRCA genes but they were negative, so im not totally high risk, but fairly high :( iv come to terms with this.
Im 24, 32A, and never been happy with my boobs, or lack of. Iv thought about boob job since i was 16, could never afford it, but have saved saved saved and have enough now (Yay)
However, iv been thinking for quite few years now about having a preventative mastectomy prior to my breast enlargement surgery. Does anyone know much about this?
Iv been googling, and it seems to be nhs offering mastectomies to ladies who unfortunately
Have/had cancer. Can i have a preventative mastectomy private?
Any help would be very much appreciated, I'm not sure where to start.
Thankyou
Carly

Re: Preventative Mastectony
Yes you can see a breast surgeon privately, most who work in the NHS also do private work . Have you approached your GP yet? You would be expected to have counselling beforehand with any preventative mastectomy especially considering your young age. Whilst it is a decision only you can make it the benefits and risks need exploring properly as it is big surgery not just a case of remove the breast tissue and put an implant in and away you go. You also need to be aware whilst mastectomy and reconstruction are done to a great standard these days the end result will not compare to a standard breast augmentation result for you. See your GP and go from there you have a strong first line family history and as such if nothing else you will need regular screening.
