Re: How/when to tell children
I think it depends firstly on age, obviously babies and toddlers won't really notice and older children may get suspicious, notice or even ask, and if even older you wouldn't want to damage trust by telling them a lie.
I think it depends on how you act around your children and how relaxed you are about things, if you've always been totally open it probably wouldn't seem like a big deal for you to mention it. I have an 11 month old daughter and a 4 and a half year old son. I've been umming and arring over what to tell my son or whether not too and I've decided not to tell him. Me and my partner have always been very open body wise around him, he sees us both naked getting dressed or has a bath or shower with us all time and I've always loved the way he looks at us, he stil thinks bodies are all different and there's no big deal, he watched me breastfeed his sister up until a few months ago and saw how my belly and boobs changed shape and always smiled and said I looked beautiful because that's what we always tell him. I feel like I'm worried if I told him it might totally change the way he looks at a body and sees that some things can be changed and disliked. That's just my opinion and I totally see where everyone else's a opinions come from! I think I'm going to tell him when I get home-( only a day case) that I've hurt my back so I can't lift his sister or do a few things until it gets better. I just hope he doesn't notice and ask, it's not very likely as he saw my boobs change loads in size whilst pregnant and feeding and never commented just thought it was normal like I told him! Good luck to everyone deciding, it can be a tricky one. I agree with Kati's comment on telling your daughter though, she sounds like a very clever little girl and very switched on, I think she'd understand when you word it correctly :) xx

Re: How/when to tell children
My daughter is seven and I won't be telling her about my op. This is for a number of reasons. The main one being that at her young age I think she would be really concerned and scared that I was going to be hurt in some way. I also think she would be shocked to know that this can actually be done. I don't want her to start questioning any part of her body, or get any of the hang ups I have. As the adult it has taken me many, many years of thought to decide to get this done and I don't want her to think that this is just a whimsical thing that is easily accessible (if you know what I mean).
Lastly she can't keep anything quiet at all! It would be all round the school in a flash - I really don't want to be dealing with that as I am only telling a handful of people. She'd probably bring her teacher out to show her lol!
She did luckily grab my padded bra yesterday and say 'ooh mam your boobs are big' so hopefully I'll get away with it

Haha I bet there's some people you want to notice and others not! I'm just going to try and think 'who cares' and be proud of my new twins ;)

Tinkerbell not sure if you read what I posted the other day, (and not sure how to 'copy' someone's post either?) but this might make you laugh:

I'm not worried about them telling other people really. My friend works at the hospital where I'm having my BA, she borrowed the sizing implants so I could play with sizes at home and try in some clothes etc. she told her 11 year old son that I was borrowing them and he obviously put 2 and 2 together and has told the rest of year 6 I'm having my boobs done!!!
