Bras!!!!
I know there are lots of posts on bras and sizing but have some questions I can't seem to find the answer to thee specif questions I have. Sorry if I ave missed it somewhere.
How many bras will I need? ( until I can wear wires)
How long roughly are people told to wear non-wired bras for? I know all are diff but if there is rough time span?
How often do you change your bras? At the moment ill wear a bra twice? Would that be the same for post BA?
I'm not booked until April but thought I'd get prepared early.
I have found a pack of two front fastening surgery bras (basically the same as a Macom) and then thought I would get the pack of two sports bras.
Also while im at it, after the one week check is it ok to shower?
Thanks ladies, sorry it's a long one! Xxxxxx

Re: Bras!!!!
You will put in a sports bra to wear 24/7 for the first 6-12 weeks (however check this is your surgeons aftercare procedure as some surgeons do not use sports bras Immidiatley after)
You will need about 2 high impact sports bras, shock absorbers, m and s front zip fastening, triumph extreme or a Macom.
Asda, primark or tesco sports bras won't be sufficient or offer the high support needed to keep the breast stable .
Even though there are generals and usualls it's all based on your healing hunny.
A post op check with the surgeon will be around 6-12 weeks and it's then you'll given either the all clear of wires or soft cups and advise of when you can start to wear wires.
Post op checks will be done with the nurse at around 5-10 days for a wound check and dressing change it's then again you'll be given advise based on your healing as to wether you can shower x

Re: Bras!!!!
Im booked in for April too & have already brought 4 different sized high impact sports bras & im going to buy a macom bra to take to hospital with me just not sure whether to get my normal 32in or to get a 34 so confusing, they are pretty expensive hense I want to get it right. I have heard so many people recommend the high impact bras from tesco & asda & m&s, I would know personally yet but woukd be handy to get a few cheaper ones I hope xxx

Re: Bras!!!!
You only really need two, wear one wash one. You don't want to spend a fortune on too many. But they're worth investing in. Also, you can get 15% off if you put 'mybreast' in at the checkout on the Macomb site.

2. One on, one for the wash
If you're wanting to buy a buy a Macom then maybe buy both sizes, sending the one back that doesn't fit.
I'd also advise you buy a back fastener as well though, along with a bra extender. Just because you never know the amount of swelling you will have post-op and the worth you could go through is discomfort from an ill fitting bra.
Forget supermarket brands though. They may be cheap. But they're not worth the money at all. A couple of washes and they lose all the support which is the very thing you 'need' during your healing, so as Charlii said, invest in the best you can afford, afterall, you're paying thousands on this surgery, why scrimp on your recovery which is vital to your result?

Generally about 4 -12 weeks. This is dependent on both surgeon and healing. If you have a complication however... It could be longer.

That's absolutely fine. I couldn't shower for the first week after my first BA and I just stayed in my bra for a week! Haha!
Its normal for me to change my bra daily, but if its normal for you every couple of days then that's absolutely fine Rach,
I'm not booked until April but thought I'd get prepared early.
If you're buying bras with a view to possibly replace if they don't fit I'd leave those till the very last thing you need to do ensuring you leave yourself enough time to return, so check their returns procedure before buying and don't remove tags from any bras until after surgery when you KNOW they fit.
Everything else though...sure, its great to be prepared. I think you feel good when you know you have everything all ready, so you're never too early I don't think to be prepared.

If you're buying a Macom I'd also buy a back fastener for the reasons I mentioned above. There's no need for 'loads' of bras Rach unless of course you want to pay out on loads. But its not necessary so if you don't 'need' them I wouldn't buy them hun.
Also while im at it, after the one week check is it ok to shower?
It depends.... If your surgeon uses glue which acts as a showerproof dressing you can shower from day one. If not, then yes, its generally a week, but some surgeons/nurses may ask you wait two. All is normal though. Xx
Re: Bras!!!!
I got away with one macom and one Tesco sports bra. I only wear the Tesco one for an hour whilst the macom is washed and dried. The macom stretched around my bacm as I had post op bloat and still fits now. There was An Off on my macom if u enter mybreast u get 15 percent off

Re: Bras!!!!
Hey,
I bought two macoms a 34 and 32 and also got a zip front m&s 32e sports bra.
I only wore the 34 mocom for one day then wore the 32 macom and my zip front sports bra the rest of the time -also after I wore my zip front to the gym while waiting to see what size I was post op, now I wear it to bed some nights.
