What's normal for incisions?
Hey girls,
I had my first post-op appointment today. I had imbedded stitches, so no bandages - just a layer of tape over the incisions.
When the nurse removed my tape, there was some weeping from the incisions. She said that was normal (it did hurt when the tape came off!), she commented that the area around the incision was a little red - probably caused by me reacting to the tape.
Since the appointment my incisions have been sore, and i've just noticed a few little spots on my bra (which have soaked through the tape). Although the nurse had said i'm ok to shower, i'm worried about getting the tape wet. I'm also worrying 'what if the redness is actually the beginning of an infection?'
What's normal for incisions? Should i be worrying or is this all part of the healing?
'Worry Wart' strikes again LOL

Re: What's normal for incisions?
Thanks girls, i have put a clean nude bra on so i can keep a close eye on it. Literally keeping all movement to a minimum LOL - at the moment it seems to be fine, so fingers crossed it's stopped. If i have any more leaking then i'll phone outpatients tomorrow.
Thanks for taking the time to respond xxx

Re: What's normal for incisions?
I had a bit of redness around my lefty insion, nothing to worry about and all was fine just give it a few more days and it should settle.
Signs of infection would be pus, green or yellow, and accompanied by a temperature fever and feeling unwell.
Don't worry Hun, you can shower just let water run over your boobs and when out dry them on a cool setting with a HAIRDRYER to thoroughly dry the tape out.

Thank you so much - i feel much better now. I should have spent more time asking the nurse, but it's always afterwards you worry about these things, Great tip about the hairdryer - i will have my well needed shower in the morning.
Thanks again xxx

Re: What's normal for incisions?
hey,
i had my dressings removed today (wasnt sore at all) and i have been given tape to wear for next few weeks.
she said if you shower and it gets wet just take off tape and put more on and do this for a few weeks.
you will be absolutely fine.
as the previous comments says unless you see oozing of any puss or have a temp etc its just normal to have a few week specs of blood and, yeah, if the take gets wet just use a cool setting on hairdryer.
