Quick question about post op procedure...
I've received my info about post op care today, and it says that I can shower after 24 hours, and if the tape gets wet, to dry it wit a hair dryer. And that I can start putting moisturizer on the scars at 3 weeks. From other ladies posts that sounds extordinarily early to me! Or is that the norm. They have said that they will use disoverable stitches, and then cover them in glue, and then cover that with the tape. I haven't heard of anyone else having glue on their scars, is that maybe why I can get them wet earlier... Thanks so much girls! Xxx

Re: Quick question about post op procedure...
We all are given individual instructions so follow your own, yes women here are allowed to shower soon after if they have been told they can, where as others have to wait.
The glue is why your able to shower early and we have had ladies here who have has the same as you :) don't worry xx

Re: Quick question about post op procedure...
Jennifer has said it best - we all have our individual set of instructions to follow ...
i could only shower lower body for the 1st seven days and then lite showers all over for the next 7 days.. then normal shower after wards..
i had strappings for the 1st 7 days and then just a little dressing over my stitches - i have stitches that need taken out

Re: Quick question about post op procedure...
I'd personally NEVER apply anything to my wounds until they'd been checked over by the clinics nurse or your surgeon babe.
We all heal at different rates and handing out a generic leaflet for all could possibly lead to infection if your wounds just aren't ready to have moisturiser applied. So if were me hun.... I'd personally have the wound checked first.
The showering is fine. Some surgeons use a waterproof dressing on the wounds and this allows for women to shower right away (lucky girls!) xx

Thanks for all the advice girls! Tbh I'm glad to hear that showing if fine! :-) was worried id feel like a wreck! :-)
@ cookie, thanks for your reply. I agree with the moisturizer, I'm really worried I'm going to be putting stuff in them too early, 3 weeks sounds super early to me! But I'm not seeing my surgeon again til 3 months after the op, and that sounds too long to wait also. And I have to remove the tapes myself at 3 weeks, so won't be seeing a nurse or anything. Maybe I should ask if the surgeon if he will remove them for me, then he can check that they have healed enough to be putting stuff on them, as he's said to put moisturizer and then silicon gel cream every other day at 3 weeks xxx

Re: Quick question about post op procedure...
I'd make an appointment with the clinic nurse after your surgery and make an appointment then to be seen at 3 weeks post-op. You'll see the clinic nurse anyway at around one week post-op just to check all is OK won't you? You could then just say how nervous you are about removing tapes and you'd rather she do it so make the appointment then.
If you don't have a post-op appointment then, then I'd wait till you're 2 weeks post-op and then call and make an appointment to see the clinic nurse the following week. Again, just say you're very nervous and would prefer the nurse to remove your dressings and get seen that way.
Either way you can get seen hun and you're fine to make this appointment post-op. Xx

Re: Quick question about post op procedure...
Ok brilliant thanks cookie. Yeah I don't actually see anyone until 3 months, which is when i see the surgeon. But he said I can call the hospital team 24/7, or see them any time I need, so I suppose what I'll do them is wait 2 weeks and call them to ask for an app the following week xx

Re: Quick question about post op procedure...
I agree, if you're at all worried, jsut make an appointment to see the nurse about a wound check/taking the tape off. After all, you've paid a lot of money for them to work for you! You may struggle to do it yourself anyway, its an awkward position to see! I had hubby changing my steristrips daily on wk2, using sterilised tweezers, but theres no way Id have managed to manouver myself to do it, especially with the achy arms!

Re: Quick question about post op procedure...
Hun if it makes you feel better - i booked ALL my appointments before my surgery with the nurse to do ALL the work!
I was asked and i jumped on it immediately - but if she had not asked - i would have loool
I jst drive there and she does the work - hoping not to sound mean - but that's all included in the package (check before you let go of your cash)..
I asked at my consultation (as written in Cookie guide / questionaire) - what type of stitches does he use .. he then explained all the post op events ...
I immediately asked - who will take the strappings / stitches etc off - and he said nurse..
I then asked for a 6 week check + the offered 3 month check and ALL in writing - via email ...
n he responded back - saying yes - and immediately i book the dates ..
Hun please feel free to ask all the questions and take ALL the care you want / need..
My straps were so easy to take off (i thought - gosh i drove 1hr for 2mins work) but i am glad i did ..
Nurse took strap off, touched twinnies lightly - then we tried on different bras, then she wore the macom on and fitted it well..
Then she checked me out - asked me a couple of questions, i asked more questions and off i went ..
I was much happier - someone professional had taken a second look at me and i was doing things right..
I am heading off again next mon to have my stitches out ...
Now am sure its all over the forum - this is more scary for me than the actual BA ... NO WAY on earth will i do that myself ...
so again - 1hr drive for maybe 5mins event - but i am happy ... right now - i have no questions - twinnies are doin well .. ladies here are excellent .. but if i do - it will be asked on mon and followed via email ..

Re: Quick question about post op procedure...
thanks for the post prettylil! I think Ill take your lead and book the appointments pre ba, so im not worrying about them fitting me in after. For me will be a 2 hr drive for 2 mins work, but would rather that than have to do it myself and then give myself an infection! :-) xxx

Re: Quick question about post op procedure...
With my last ba as it was a 2hr there and 2hr back , they were happy if I used my local gp nurses (who I know really well anyway) and they were more than happy to change my dressings and do wound checks had 3 appointments in total 5 7 and 10 days. My nurses were very thorough.
So if that's an option for you maybe?? X

Thanks girls, took your advice and spoke to my surgeon, he's agreed to see me at my 3 weeks so he can remove the tape and check the wounds before I start putting cream on them! Yay! Xxx

Hi mrsball, that's a great idea, but wouldn't really work for me, and I wouldn't trust her with my scars! :-)

Re: Quick question about post op procedure...
Hey,
On the day of discharge my surgeon at first said I could shower that day but then changed his mind damn!!!!!! Even though I had waterproof dressings over steristrips and glue, also had my review/dressings appointment made for me the following tuesday - got all clear that night to shower and he was pleased at how well my incisions had healed in just one week!!
