Running Post BA Empty Running Post BA

Post by Specialkj 26th September 2013, 11:21 am

I was given the all clear to go running at 6 weeks, so i went for a little jog with my 2 sports bras on.  When I ran they felt like they were purring if you know what i mean, I didn't feel comfortable and was worried I was jigging them around too much too soon.  Since then I have avoided running and just stuck to bike and cross trainer which has been pretty good.  I also thought I would see how they felt the next day, and they did feel fine after the running, but I only jogged for 2 miles on and off, so not sure if I did a proper run, what they would feel like.

But I am missing my running, how has anyone else got on with this?  How long did it take to feel like you weren't potentially damaging them?

Hi hun, I was given the all clear to run 3-4 weeks after surgery, which sounded way too soon to me at the time.  I did my first 3 mile run (albeit pretty gingerly) with 2 bras like you, ran the whole way though & felt fine.  That was about 4 weeks post op.  15 months on they're still fine running, so the early runs didn't seem to do any damage.  I'm only wearing the one shock absorber bra now, ought to wear 2 really, but find it digs in a lot under my boobs. My one bra is very supporting though.  I run for miles & miles now, it's fine.  Just get out there, but take it easy & just listen to your body :) xx

I have been running again for a few weeks, I too was paranoid about excessive jiggling.

Any time before this that I had had to run ie after the dog etc it did feel weird and uncomfortable. So I was very aware of the fact that at that point I was not ready to run.

I bought a Triumph Tri-action Extreme and went running when I felt ready, probably more of a jog, for about 25 mins I think. It felt fine, I concentrated on getting into a rhythm with a gentle swing of the arms. I was fully expecting to be sore the next day, but I wasn't!

So I am running everyday, up to about 45mins, maximum 5 miles, and all is good. I am not a long distance runner though so I don't know if this would make a difference.

Definitely go carefully, listen to your body. They do feel weird to start off & for a while they feel different, but that's just because they are!  xx

This is what I have been dreading... I love running. And have ran for years and its going to kill me not to do this. My surgeon has said 4 weeks and to take it easy...... Something I do not do. But I will...... With a good sports bra I will soon get back to it. I do lift too..... So this is going to be 6 weeks.......
It's so hard when you are so active, my exercise is my release......
BB running thread sound good.....xx

Post by clazabella 29th September 2013, 3:41 pm

I restarted Couch to 5k today...completed it last year November then other things got in the way and completely gave up. Started armed up with a Panache sports bra with an M & S zip up one over the top of that. My leftie (which is the rubbish side) started to ache a bit about 20 minutes into it but nothing major so i am just going to wait and see what it feels like tomorrow. I miss running i have decided....good luck Smike

Post by louise28 9th January 2014, 10:55 am

Girls this post has been so helpful to me, thank you. I'm just over 4 weeks and been back exercising since week 2, only doing bike, cross trainer (no arms), squats & abs (only as guided by surgeon). I'm so missing running and was told if felt ok, no pain etc, give it a go gently at 3 weeks. I've totally tuned into my body and haven't felt ready to attempt a slight jog until 2 days ago, so I slowly increased my speed on treadmill from brisk walk to gentle jog, I didn't even do a minute it felt sooo weird, no pain, my boobs just felt alien. So I'm parking running for another 2 weeks for now as I think I'm not ready mentally to break through the weirdness, it's so good to read that will pass.x

Hi Louise, glad the post helped you, ive not been on for a while as am all settled and pretty much back to normal exercise wise.  I have been doing loads and loads of running, with my 2 bra's on and it has been absolutely fine.  Entered a half marathon in March so confident they will be ok for this.
You are right to definately listen to your body, the first run I did felt so weird, but now i don't even notice they are there now.

Good luck with your recovery!!!

Aw thanks SpecialK, that's so reassuring. You give me faith especially since you're at half marathon stage, well done you.
Which bras do you wear? I'm currently wearing a Triumph Tri action and shock absorber for recovery and was hoping they'll be fine for running after, with maybe a crop top over, you know like the nike ones? What do you recommend?x
