Still leaking - advice please.....
Hello Lovely people.
As some of you know I had my second wound appointment on Tuesday and had steri-strips removed. Couple of hours later I realised I was bleeding through my shirt.
When I looked it was apparent nurse had pulled off a scab with the strips (at point where vertic incision joins incision around areola on right breast).
The bleeding stopped (wasn't significant) but was replaced by a yellowish watery ooze (like plasma). I wasn't concerned initially as it seemed my body was just doing what bodies do when scabs have been ripped off prematurely.
The oozing is still happening though - not a lot but enough to make me begin to wonder about possible infection.
What do you guys think? I took a close-up photo yesterday morning that is posted on my blog (click globe under avatar).
I don't have any other symptoms, the discharge smells fine, no redness, heat or itching.
So inconvenient. I am back at work today and cannot see how I can get to clinic or even my GP until Saturday.
Your opinions will be much appreciated.
The colour of the ooze is amber.
Thanks guys.
Zoe xx
PS keeping wounds clean and dry (first post-op shower postponed until I'm water tight).

Awww Zoe, someone will be along to hopefully advise you from their past experiences. All I can say is try and keep it is dry as possible and if your concerned perhaps go see the nurse sweetie. Wish I could help more :(( x

Re: Still leaking - advice please.....
Hi Hun , good that no inflammation, I would get something to keep it covered but with air able to get through, like a piece of gauze loosely covering and tapped away from from other incisions. I had a little hole on my incisions, I saw my nurse, had it cleaned etc( i was spitting out the stitches) and was advised to do this. Personally I would have it seen. Even if you pop into your A&E tonight. That's what I would do Hun if you are worried. Also, I wasn't logged in and could see your photo , so just be aware of this Hun xxx love Jak

Re: Still leaking - advice please.....
The secretion sounds like its liquid fat Zoe which is fine and not to be worried about.
However... In saying that, I personally think with a reduction especially if the wouldn't is secreting fluid you should go and get it checked 'by your clinic nurse or surgeon!
I know you say you say you're working and time is limited but IF this were to lead to an infection Elizabeth, which I don't think it will but best to checked, then you'd be taking more than a half day from work to get it checked out babe...you'd up and down the clinic constantly having the around cleaned, checked and redressed. So a half day is nothing for peace of mind and reassurance in the grand scheme of things is it hun.
I do actually think you could do with a steri-strip to keep that part there that's opening anyway Elizabeth. Xxx

I agree! Any wound that is oozing should be checked out by your nurse or surgeon. X

Get Sharon, Jakki and Cookie :)
Thank you so much for your replies. Very much appreciated. X
I am waiting for clinic nurse to call me back now.
Liquid fat makes sense Cookie. But I think you are right better safe than sorry.

Spoken to nurse
Hello Lovelies,
I've spoken to the nurse at the clinic. She isn't too concerned. She thinks she disturbed the healing when she snipped the suture line. She remembered that one was a bit tricky to snip.
She said if I start to feel unwell (flu like symptoms) to call back and/or go to GP/hospital. She does not think that will happen.
I've made an appointment to go see her on Tuesday so she can just check how healing is going.
She said if I felt more comfortable I could put a suture over that bit.
She also encouraged me to shower. I expressed my concern and she said infection very unusual when no implants.
She advised all that Cookie has regarding drying wounds after shower. Laying for a while to let air get to the wounds etc.
Thanks again guys.

Ah that must have been so scary for you Zoe, glad you spoke to the nurse and she's reassured you, hopefully the oozing will stop soon for you, it's just something you so don't need! This whole healing journey is just one big worry don't you think, it's so hard to not pay attention to every change and worry! I know I do!
Hope your son had a good birthday and your first day back at work went well in between the oozing! :-) xx

Hey Eddy :)
This healing journey is a great big worry - you are so right
Son's birthday was great thanks Lovely and return to work much easier than I anticipated. It was the drive there are back that was the most difficult (vibrations in the car were very ouchie!!)
Hope you're okay too Lovely.

UPDATE - what a difference a day makes!!
Hey Lovelies,
Thank you all for your amazing support
I am very pleased to tell you all that the oozing has stopped . I got home from work yesterday and the oozing had been happening during the day but looked like it was drying up .
I had a very tentative shower - did not feel right to be getting under the water stream with my poor mutilated boobies . I pat dry, used hairdryer and then lay for half and hour with windows open.
Sports bra instead of macom (much more comfortable ) and out with my girlfriends.
Got home late last night and checked - NO OOZING . None at all . It looks like that part of the wound is healing really well - HURRAY!!!
Working much more locally today (7 mile drive there and back as opposed to the 4 hour round trip of yesterday) so that is a relief and then it is the weekend

Great news on the healing sweetie - although I can't believe how much you packed in to your first day back at work..... I just drove for about a hour throughout the day and felt uncomfortable.

The driving was a pain (literally). Unfortunately my business involves lots of driving (I deliver training all over the country and average 3000 - 5000 miles per month).
Thankfully August is always my quietest month for training work (the main reason I booked my uplift for the end of July was that I would have a relatively 'gentle' return to work).
Today was much better as the training school is only 7 miles from my home - HAPPY DAYS:clap hands:
