when can you lie on your side?
I know this sounds a silly question but in all of the million questions I asked at my post op appointment I forgot to ask them about sleeping arangments. I have to wear a sports bra and binder for 6 weeks. Any ideas when I would be okay to change my sleeping position? I could ring hospital but was wondering if there was a general time of when you can move onto your side. Thanks girlies

Re: when can you lie on your side?
Hi Louann. I was told after my 2wk check up I should be fine to sidesleep, as all the swelling had gone down. Im still struggling to actually do it though, and while Im back to falling asleep on my side, Im still waking up on my back. I think as long as all your swelling has settled, you should be fine to start lying flat, and rolling over, but only as your body will let you. If you're at all unsure though, give your clinic a call, its what they're there for.

Re: when can you lie on your side?
I have been side sleeping now from around 3 and a half weeks post op with no discomfort at all. I dont think there is a time limit, so long as its comfortable and u have reduced swelling hun x

Re: when can you lie on your side?
hi hun,
i was told i can move onto my side at 3 weeks if its comfortable! but i think thats the key thing, listen to your body and if its painful just go back to sleeping on your back and try again a few days later x

Great post thank you louann!
I am finding it difficult sleeping propped up and on my back and I can't wait to sleep on my side, but it's still too uncomfy. I too forgot to ask this on my check up :)

Re: when can you lie on your side?
hi girls, it was around two and a half weeks that I felt comfy lying on my side. Before that I couldn't because I was too sore. your body will tell you when you're ready xx

Re: when can you lie on your side?
You should be fine sleeping on your side now. Using your V-pillow is really going to help this transition as well and a soft pair of socks placed in your cleavage. If you hug your V-pillow and move it into a position whereby your bottom boob can sit in the hole and the rest of your body doesn't put any pressure on it... This is the most comfortable way to start the transition.... But if you do suffer any pain or discomfort unfortunately you'd have to go back to your back for a couple of days and then maybe try again. As has been said hun, just listen to your body. Xx
Re: when can you lie on your side?
I sleep on my side and i'm seven weeks post op. To be honest you will know if you can sleep on your side or not as the pain will be unbearable. I must have rolled onto my side so many times in the early days and I soon changed my position! Listen to your body, that is my best advice xx
