Hey ladies ,
So My admission time is 9 am so does that mean I'm more likely to be a morning or afternoon surgery , I kno I have to have a blood test to check my iron levels so just curious I know it's not set in stone :) xx

Re: Likelihood
I wouldn't mind late morning early afternoon , guess like very one I'd rather not wait till late afternoon especially as I can't take my iron tablets and can get fatigued bit more x

Re: Likelihood
I had a 7am admission at Dolan park for a 10am surgery, but I didn't have any bloods done, just yes no weight height bp. I'd think lunch/ early afternoon. Give them a call in the morning on your way, they should have the times by then.

Re: Likelihood
When is your op Sophia ?
I think like most hospitals it really depends on what happens in theatre before you go in, which impacts your time slot. As a general rule your surgeon should take in first people who are day cases or who have additional health problems or allergies. Hopefully you won't have a long wait but I think it's best to be prepared to have a long wait so if it happens your not too disheartened. xx

I didn't realise there is quite a long weight from when you get to the hospital in the morning/afternoon to when you actually have the surgery ! you all must have been so nervous and on edge for hours ! xxx

Re: Likelihood
I agree with Ray. Its best to always prepare for a long wait and then if you're lucky and go not long after admission that's just a bonus for you then.
Are the hospital aware of the problem you have blood pressure Sophia?

Re: Likelihood
Not always babe.
I have naturally low pressure and had to have my blood pressure taken regularly over a 3 month period to ensure it was normal for me... Which thankfully it was and I don't need medication or anything to control it. I do get dizzy spells if I get up too quickly though, but I'm aware of the cause and fine with it.
I don't suffer blindness or temporary black outs though hun.
I do know your pressure drops during surgery and it takes me some time to get back to normality having to have my head dropped lower than my body for a while till it comes back up, but the clinic are well aware of it, prepared for and KNOW its normal for me.
So do make discussing the blindness and temporary black outs a priority Sophie. Don't presume anything babe and tell them everything. X

Re: Likelihood
Hey Sophia, is your surgeon/clinic aware of this? if not i'd give them a call and let them know as something like that can affect their decision making with scheduling. Also, not sure if you've had GA before but if not then when you have the chat with the anesthetist just before surgery let him know as he'll be able to help with how you feel before coming round. i'm like you and my bp drops if i dont eat regularly, i had an op last may and was so ill when i came round, ended up being kept in for observation so i let the anesthetist know before my BA and the difference was phenomenal, i felt great! they've got loads of tricks up their sleeves :) good luck for weds hun xx

Re: Likelihood
hi sophia,
i had a read through others' surgery stories at dolan park and the average wait between admission and going down for surgery seems about 3hours? that should give you a rough idea..
you can also ask the staff as well as they will have an order of the people going down.
as the others have said, be sure to mention your blood pressure issue.
the nurse who admits you will take your bp so mention it then, and also to the anesthetist who will come and see you beforehand.
they will ask you all sorts of questions anyway so any questions and concerns you have at that point, ask away.
but rest assured you'll be well looked after there hun, so take something to read to pass the time, and enjoy your day hun x

Re: Likelihood
I Was advised that diabetic patients and people with health complications are usually operated on first as are day cases. Fingers crossed you'll be nearer the front of the queue. Admissions start at 7am at Dolan park, the hospital should already have a plan of where you are on the day of surgery however this is always subject to change.
I got there at 7 am and I was first on the list however I drank coffee with milk at 4:30 am, milk is classes as food so I had to be moved until second place which was 4 hrs later then expected.
Good luck Hun, it's nearly here :0) whoop whoop
