do i have to massage my scars?
at my 6 week check my surgeon said i could start massaging them but that they were looking quite flat for how soon post op i was... obviously, i don't want lumpy scars but the thought of touching them really grosses me out plus they're not in the breast fold yet so i'm worried about disturbing the implant or something. would it matter if i don't massage them or is it something that's really advised?

At this early I know it's weird to touch them, but if your surgeon has suggested it, maybe give it a try, gently. You wont disturb anything or slow your healing, it's basically just little circular movements over the scar.

Id do it too if your surgeon has suggested it to you. My surgeon told me to use Vitamin E cream (E45), if your not sure maybe call your clinic and ask? x

My surgeon told me to start massaging mine at 6 weeks with bio oil. I was told to use circular motions up and down the scar. I've gotta be honest, the thought of touching them proper grossed me out, I couldn't do it! It took me almost 2 weeks to pluck up the courage to start lol. But it's not as bad as you think it's gonna be hun x

Re: do i have to massage my scars?
I didnt massage my first scars and they healed perfectly hun. But if you've been advised to massage its best that you do.
I'd personally try just touching your scars at first so you can familiarise yourself with them, don't put anything on them, just touch them... Slide your fingers along the length of the scar, then when you feel comfortable add a little moisturiser or bio-oil and just do the same, forget about pressure at first, just get used to touching the scars and as you gain more confidence it will come naturally to you to be able to apply some pressure, then you can start using the circular motions to break down any scar tissue you may have.
Don't worry that the scar sits on your boob just now, that's fine, the massage won't disrupt any healing at all. Xx

Re: do i have to massage my scars?
i wouldn't say that he advised it, he sorta just mentioned "you can massage them if you want but they're pretty flat for how soon post op you are"
just been emailed a copy of the notes from the appt and doesn't say anything about massaging... just to keep them out of the sun and to wear a good quality sports bra when i go back to the gym
might have a go at it anyway if i can build up the courage

The thought of touching mine goes through me too. my ps said something along the lines of what yours said, but the thought really goes through me for some reason and I don't like touching them so I haven't massaged mine and they're perfectly flat and faint x

Re: do i have to massage my scars?
I'd do as cookie said and see if you can just touch them, and build up to massage. If you really feel you can't hun, don't worry about it for now, see how you feel in a few weeks or just lleave them. You'll be fine not to massage.
