Woman dies after undergoing several procedures.
BOCA RATON, Fla. (CBS Tampa) - A woman died after slipping into a coma two days after undergoing cosmetic surgery.
The deceased, 39-year-old Adriana DeSilva, reportedly died just two days after getting a tummy tuck, breast augmentation and neck liposuction, WPTV is reporting.
The day after the surgeries were performed at Boca Raton Surgery Center, DeSilva reportedly told doctors that she was not feeling well. When they examined her however, they told her she was fine. The next day, she suffered a stroke, which put her into a coma. She died soon after.
According to her family, the surgeries were something DeSilva was doing for herself.
“It was a present that she was going to give herself for her birthday and for Mother’s Day,” her daughter, Kerolayne Stuwer, told the station. “I was happy for her. It was something she wanted to do.”
An autopsy is pending, but legal representation for DeSilva’s family referred to the death of their matriarch as “suspicious.”
“Florida has become sort of the wild, wild west of cosmetic procedures and if we don’t do something about it, more people are going to continue to lose their lives,” family attorney Daniel Harwin was quoted as saying.
Dr. Daniel M. Zeichner, who performed the surgery, claims that he has never had a patient die before.
“I feel absolutely horrible for the family. It has gotten to me,” he said, according to WPTV. “She had an unfortunate incident, it can happen. It can happen for anyone.”

BOCA RATON, FL (WFLX) - Eight days after Adriana DeSilva died, her son and daughter are speaking out about her death and the dangers of cosmetic surgery.
Lawyers representing the family say DeSilva had four surgeries done at once. She had a breast augmentation and lift, a tummy tuck and liposuction of the neck at the Boca Raton Surgery Center in Boca Raton.
Her lawyers allege she was released 90 minutes after the surgery was complete, and was told she could go home to wherever she was staying in Boca Raton.
The next day, because she was in pain, she went to a different doctor because her surgeon wasn't available.
Then, the day after, she suffered a stroke and went into a coma -- and never woke up.
Her family questions whether she was treated properly. Her 14-year-old daughter, Kerolayne Stuwer, says DeSilva was looking forward to the procedure.
"I was happy for he. It was something she wanted to do. It was a present she was giving herself for her birthday and for Mother's Day," said Kerolayne.
DeSilva is originally from Brazil but had been living with her family for several years when she decided to go to Boca Raton for the surgery.
No lawsuit has been filed, right now lawyers are pulling DeSilva's medical records to try and learn exactly what happened.

We've read so many times here about some surgeons promoting 'fast recovery technique' and we have always responded with concern when this is mentioned.
If the lady was discharged after 90 minutes that really is terrible and no time at all to have monitored the lady to ensure she was well enough to go home

Re: Woman dies after undergoing several procedures.
90 minutes, that's crazy, especially as she was saying she felt unwell. I know it is a very rare occurance to suffer a delayed stroke followiing surgey, but you then have to wonder was she well enough for a GA at the time, did they just do an operation without taking into consideration any medical conditions or did she have an undiagnosed medical condition. It's very sad. Must be awful for the family waiting to find out.
