Long journey after BA...
Hi everyone,
Quick question. I am having my surgery in Birmingham, 3 hours away from my home in North Yorkshire. I had originally planned to stay for a week in Birmingham before driving back home (very slowly) myself. However, now my mum knows about my surgery, she says that it would be expensive to stay in Birmingham for that length of time and that it might be better for her to drive us back to my house post-BA where she can look after me. How many days after a BA do you think it would be comfortable (at least moderately comfortable) to be a passenger in such a long journey? This concerns me as I don't want to leave Birmingham too early. Thanks guys xxx

Well this will sound crazy but i feel like i could have done it the day of surgery but wouldnt be able to have done it since. Maybe because the GA still had the numbing effect? X
Re: Long journey after BA...
To be honest babe, living 3 hours away I'd personally have a nights stay in hospital and also a nights stay in a hotel, just to be sure all is well so soon after surgery before driving home.
3 hours away is a long way to drive if you have any concerns right after surgery lovely, so that's what I'd personally do, but its up to you hun what you feel is best. Xx

A lot of girls have to travel 3 hours or further for their BA and then have to leave the hospital the next morning to be driven home. It's the norm x

if i go with the surgeon im seeing at consult then ill be 2 hours from home, i'm planning on daycase so booking hotel the night before BA and night of BA then my mam will drive home the next day. from what ive seen on here though sometimes day cases stay in overnight if the time is pushed back so that might happen with you then you can come back the next day then. better to stay at least one night in case you need to check anything :) xx

I would defo recommend at least 1 nights stay like cookoe says its so much better if something happens! the journey home shouldn't be too bad if its mainly motorways and decent roads?? I only felt it going over speed bumps an on roundabouts xxxx

Mine was going round corners. Felt like i was in a Morecombe and Wise sketch holding onto the newbies and my entire body moving whenever the road had a bend haha x

I would probably have the night in hospital and another night in a hotel as your so far from home. I found being a passenger ok, I would recommend a pillow for between your boobies and the seatbelt x

Re: Long journey after BA...
I stayed overnight and then my fella drove me home the next day (2.5 hours away) It was bloody hard and not a nice journey as I was so uncomfortable and I wished I had stayed another night which is why I booked 2 nights in a hotel following my revision which was just as well cos I got readmitted on the 2nd day so it was a good job I was close by and my fella had somewhere to sleep!

im 3 hours away from hospital (cardiff to London) I was told by transform as i lived more than 30 miles away from clinic i had to either stay in hospital overnight or local hotel overnight and not travel back until 24hours had passed form surgery. In the end transform gave me over night stay and cheauffeur driven transport inc in my surgery price xx

Yep.. Stay in hosp for sure. I bagged 2 nights as I was an evening surgery. SO glad I did as it allowed time to get my pain meds sorted. I went home on double the codiene they had given me the first day! If I'd have gone earlier, I wouldn't have managed the pain:(
